Hello fellow Escapists!
I'm in a bit of a very annoying and frustrating pickle here.
Now I'll admit up front that I'm not much of a game streamer. I am however a frequent art streamer. The website I use to stream is Picarto tv and they utilize the program OBS (Open Broadcast Software) for their fellow art users to utilize so they can stream their content to their audience.
All was for the most part fine and dandy when I used the default Monitor Screen capture that recorded basically everything on the stream.
But after helping my friend set up her own Picarto account I noticed there was a Window Capture option. Which allowed the host to set up their streams so that only viewers can only see what's on my art programs and nothing else.
This is great for me sometimes people would send me PM's in my stream chat, and it wouldn't matter because everyone on stream can see it clear as day.
Now this is where the problem comes in. Window Capture is so fucking iffy that it is absolutely hair pulling trying to deal with it.
My main problem is that when I preview stream- despite me CLEARLY saying the source of my window capture is X program (we'll just say it's Paint Tool SAI), when said window is up and I hit the preview button I get nothing but a black screen.
The programs I use for art streaming is Paint Tool SAI, Manga Studio 5, and Photoshop CS5.
I resolved the Paint Tool SAI issue myself by simply giving it a separate scene of it's own and adding in window capture as it's source. To make sure it was a permanent fix I also closed down OBS and reopened it and it still works as intended.
After much digging it seems that there is no hope for Photoshop to work properly due to the fact that they very way it's built just doesn't play nice with OBS period, so I'm just going to leave streams like that Monitor capture.
Now Manga Studio 5 is the one that is frustrating me.
It worked just fine for a brief moment. But the moment I closed OBS and opened back up again it doesn't seem to work properly in Window Capture mode.
I did the same thing that worked for Paint Tool SAI- I made an entirely different scene specifically for Window Capturing Manga Studio 5. Regardless of how many times I set Manga Studio the program as the source it still comes up as a black screen even though the program is ACTIVE.
I'm getting really fucking tired of it. I was willing to compromise Photoshop seeing as how I don't even use it all that often, but SAI and Manga Studio are the two programs that I stream most often and I'd like to keep both of those programs on Window Capture mode.
Is it the way Manga Studio is built? Is it OBS? Is there a plugin I can use to fix this? I don't know. I wanted to stream Manga Studio today, but I can't. I really like the privacy Window Capture mode offers me and my viewers, but it seems that it's a lot more trouble than it's worth.
Can anyone help me out with this?
EDIT: I also don't think it's the program itself causing issues. Manga Studio 5 is the most recent program of the Manga Studio series and I know a few artists- one of them being Slugbox streaming in that program constantly and I know he uses the Window Capture option in OBS. I say this because he uses the microphone and he's always replying to users in the chat even though the chat screen isn't visible. Unless of course he has double monitors that I'm not aware of. Of course that shouldn't effect Window Capture in the slightest. I only have one monitor but Window Capture works for Paint Tool SAI just fine.
