Alright here is my issue. I have a very creative imagination. I am thinking up for original things(I think) and a fairly vast number of good ideas. And a good amount of these can be material for a good novel (I think) and being an author had always been a dream of mine always wanted to right science fiction and fantasy. But despite having this dream and these ideas I can?t just open word processor and start typing, I just can?t motivate myself into it. Between me being able to drain a good amount of these thoughts in video games and role playing I am having a hell of a time trying to write.
Would you guys have some advice on what I could do to get myself motivated into maybe getting myself going?

This might help (just pick out the parts relevant to writing):

Don't worry about structure or what people will think, just write something. Find a pen name and remind yourself that whatever you write won't have to be associated with you; you have absolute freedom.

I think know how you feel, so I'm not sure even this will help. As soon as I think I should immediately start something requiring extended focus and creativity, I feel this mild albeit debilitating apprehension and I put off anything substantial until or if it's an absolute necessity.

I'm pretty similar. I usually don't try to motivate myself though, I just end up sitting down one day pop something out. If it helps though, I remember my old english teacher loved having us do freewrites, etc. Try freewriting about anything. To a picture, a song, a pattern, really anything.

I've had precisely the same problems, but recently I started writing. It's not good, but I figure that first drafts always probably suck, so I'm fine there.

One thing you should consider, however, is the possibility that your motivational issues are chemically related. I'm Bi-Polar, so when I go through my depressive phase I lack any and all ambition to do anything. It's possible you could have problems in that area or you could just be lazy.

My suggestion is to not push things. It took me a couple months of reading and waking up in the middle of the night to me writing stories in my head before I sat down and started typing.

If you want it, go for it. If not, that's fine.

HEY! Get up and seize the day! BY THE THROAT!!

But seriously, do you have a good friend who would be interested in helping you write? Just tell them your ideas and have them write it all down. You'd be surprised how much more animated a person becomes when asked to reveal their secret genius! I know I've had story ideas that I can tell a lot better than I can write.

If that doesn't motivate you then nothing will, hell it motivates me EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! Good luck with your dream of being author by the way, I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of hardships just stick through with it.

I have to say, that video is freaking sweet.

OT: I have had similar problems in the past, but i have a found a sorta solution. For me, I listen to some really angry music. Slipknot works really well for this, because it oozes pure anger and hatred. Really gets me riled up, but in a good way.

This is a problem all artists have some blame it on artists block but for the most part it can be hard to get motivated at times esspecially when you know if you arnt satified with the piece it could be a waste of time or that it can take days or longer to complete (I am a visual artist)
