I just (finally) got Live today, but in doing so I created a new profile.
Anyway, looks like I'm stuck with it, so are there gonna be any problems having one unconnected profile with all my game saves and continue using it for that and a completely new one for online gaming? i.e. at some point is it gonna tell me I can't do something online because I haven't completed the game on the live profile?

And will I be able to use DLCs on the original profile?

You won't be able to play multiplayer on the first account but you will be able to download certain stuff (as what they call silver membership (giving them all your details) is free).

You won't be able to access any of your game saves on your second profile and it won't know you've completed anything or done any achievements

Yeah I realise that, but for example, are there online things you can only unlock if you've completed the game on that profile?

Not sure why you didn't just upgrade the first account to gold... that would have seemed to fix both problems.

I didn't realise at the time. I did it via the internet so had to recover the gamertag on my 360.

Saying that though, it is through the family pack so there are 2 slots left. Will I be able to upgrade the original one to one of those slots?

EDIT: Sorry, just saw that you bought the family pack. Yes, I would recommend upgrading the old one with your other slots and just letting the new one go away or die down or let a friend use it on two player games or something.
How do I do this exactly? I have another windows live account I can use, so where do I go from here?

EDIT 2: Also, there's a quote button. If you must respond to somebody, it takes all of half a second to click it. Please do so, or the very person you are trying to respond to probably won't respond unless they revisit the thread.
ah yeah sorry, I forgot there was a notification system attatched to it
