Ahhh I see my bad. In that case ignore my attempt at a funny.
I'm from the UK and we only have to pay extra for movies and sports channels the rest we get in package deals (and not at that kind of price).
I admit I have no idea how cable tv is dealt with over the pond just assumed it was the same.
I apologise.
Well, it's not entirely invalid. It's just not EXACTLY as advertised.
We don't know the extent of this service or whether you will have to be a subscriber already to take advantage of it. It may not be an alternative, at which point, it WILL be silly. And even then, HBO is kind of low on original content, so paying a large amount would still be kind of silly.
However, in the US, cable is frequently tiered. My ISP, which is one of the largest in the country, not only requires you to pay for the movie channels, but for cable. Doesn't matter, for example, that I don't watch the broadcast tier, I have to get that both to get the "higher channels" and the separate pay networks. But yeah, even basic broadcast level is like 25 bucks a month. And they keep raising the prices.
I'd rather have something similar to what you have, or even "a la carte" programming, because I only watch a handful of channels period. I wouldn't mind paying the "extra" for HBO if I didn't have to buy two tiers below it.
(Note: Comcast offers different packages regionally. I know this first hand, that what they offer here is different from elsewhere, so there might be options that don't require you to pay like this, but I doubt it. I also have to pay nearly twice as much for internet as some of the people I've spoken to, at half the speed. Yay monopolies!)
