Although to Greg Tito: Did you REALLY compare "Wheel of Time" favorably to "A Song of Ice and Fire?" That's like comparing a super-sized Big Mac extra fatty meal favorably to the tasting menu at The Fat Duck, you know...
I know it's in vogue to give Jordan the short shrift but the Wheel of Time is still a landmark fantasy series.

Plus, Brandon Sanderson's latest installment had me riveted not unlike I was when I first read Game of Thrones. I can't say that Feast For Crows did that.

YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Even though I stopped reading this series because Martin refuses to freakin' write the next book!
I think the date has finally been settled for april this year (after about 7 different date changes. ¬¬ wasn't it originally slated for release 2 years ago?)
Sadly, the date has not been settled. Different sites publish different dates, but Martin is still actively writing and until he gives a final manuscript to the publisher, any dates are just guesses...
I just checked waterstone, and now they are saying september. I'm now pissed off with george once more. Methinks i shall have to give him a stern talking to.

Edit:and yet the paperback is scheduled for 5 april. I am befuzzled
The book won't be out in September. To be so he had to finish the book this month or the next. And the book is far far from being completed.

When it comes to Martin I give no hope. The man has disappoint me to many times in the past 5 years, so I crush peoples hopes and dreams. No, Martin hit a snag with the book over a plot point. He is been on the same point for quite some time.(Years some might say) And till he says he completed that plot section the book isn't moving anywhere.

I can't speak to vogue. I read the first book in the Wheel of Time, and disliked it greatly. I've been watching my wife forcing herself to read the remaining books as they've come out over the years, and I'm glad I didn't continue. To each his own, but I personally believe Martin is ten times the writer that Jordan ever was.

I love this book series. Makes me sad I don't have HBO and glad I know how to get around that.

I guess i shall just have to remain patient and satisfy myself with reading works by other more reliable authors.
And if the man is so stuck, he should tell me what his problem is so i can fix it for him XD

He had better not pull a Jordon is all I gotta say. I would vomit with rage and frustration.
If you're referring to "dying before finishing the series" then yes, he had better not. I've been sending Martin healthy eating guides, moderate exercise routines, reasons to not smoke, not skydive, not cross the street, etc. etc.

As for the HBO series, I'm the ever-popular "cautiously optimistic." "Fantasy setting" and "TV series" don't go well together, but HBO has some decent quality control. If it's The Sopranos with swords, we're golden (I.E. an entertaining and quality production). If it's another Rome, then none of us will suffer from insomnia while watching it.

I am cautiously optimistic. A Song Of Ice and Fire is one of my favorite book series, and the fact that it is being made with contributions by Martin (on HBO, with I think this series is much better suited for than normal stations), gives me hope that with will be well done. It could still end up crap, but I'm excited.

Plus, Sean Bean as Ned is awesome.

Being a long time fan of the series, this sounds awesome so long as they don't change everything.

This is great, I can't wait!
Sounds much more promising than the crapfest Legend of the Seeker ended up being.

Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire is probably my favorite series of fantasy books that doesn't have Ring or Wheel in the title.
You rank it up there with "Lord of the Rings" and, more important to me, "The Wheel of Time"? Well sir, you have made me greatly interested in this series, as I have never heard of it before. Even if's a fraction as great as The "Wheel" series, then I am sold. Now, off to find those books!

It's not like the guy could have prevented himself from DYING from an incurable DISEASE!
At least he planned out the ending when he knew he didn't have the time to finish it and made sure a good writer was chosen to complete it.

Oh, man - sooo excited. It's going to be amazing.

.... shit. I don't get HBO! Well, I may just have to pay the extra for it when the time comes.
