I JUST got over the fact that "A dance with Dragons" ended with those horrendous cliffhangers and moved on to other books and stories, but i just know that when the third season airs, i am going to search google every day to look for infos if "The Winds of Winter" is coming out in 5 or 10 years. Damnit!
Lots of interesting stuff here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/67929-twow-spoilers-miscon-reading-two-winds-of-winter-chapters/
I just finished A Dance with Dragons today and immediately went to the internet in search of some resolution of the massive cliffhangers. Especially to do withJonI personally don't think he'll die. At least not right away. It'll be interesting to see how a now injured Jon deals with needing to go and kick Ramsey's ass.
Quite frankly, up until that moment I was really psyched that Jon was about to go and fuck Ramsey's shit up, so I hope it still happens. Perfect way to shut down a dickhead that's been rampant too long.
I think Jon really is dead but he warged into Ghost and is now living in him. I think Melissandre will realize that she needs to bring him back so she'll use that one kiss that Thoros used on Beric. Jon will Warg back into his old body and continue on his way. Melissandre will do this either because she thinks Jon is too important or because she realizes that he might be Azor Ahai reborn instead of Stannis.
Besides all that, I really doubt GRRM would kill him off before revealing his parentage. There's a very popular (and convincing) theory going around that Ned was not actually his father but rather he found Jon with Lyanna Stark in the Tower of Joy. Lyanna and Rhaegar had been living there together because they were in love (the only one who seems to think Rhaegar was an evil man who would steal a woman away is Robbert) and he had got her pregnant with Jon. We know that some of Lyanna's last words to Ned are "promise me." Ned is constantly thinking and looking back on this promise. He thinks about it as if it damaged his marriage. He implies to Robert that Lyanna just meant that she wanted to be buried in Winterfell but that doesn't seem like the kind of secret you'd always be reflecting on. What Lyanna is wanting Ned to promise is to take Jon as his own and not tell anyone about his Targaryen blood. If Robert had found out, he most certainly would have had Jon killed because of his hatred for that house.
If the above paragraph proves to be true, then I highly doubt GRRM would build up this awesome character before he can reach (or at least glimpse) his potential.
