So clearly its not gonna be the Graphic Novel's story exactly. And if I have to assess this. I'd say this is going to be the sequel/continuation that takes place after the events of the Book/Movie itself.

Mildly curious. But cautious because Damon Lindelof is spearheading this show. This guy is JJ Abrams partner in crime. He's part of the reason why LOST sucked in its closing seasons from what I have been told.

But as to the show. I am wondering if we are gonna see Dr. Manhattan here at all. Or Nite Owl and Silk Spectre now Blonde.

They are going a bit too far in trying to do their own thing it seems. But lets see what happens.

Jeremy Irons here is Ozymandias mind you. I don't know who is Silk Spectre and Nite Owl.

And I don't know if we will see Dr. Manhattan or not.

I want to see where they're going with this. I'm not a huge fan of the original Watchmen, the plot's just a bit too much a relic of its time for me, too reply rooted in Cold War Paranoia and it's satire and commentary on super hero fiction isn't that timely anymore either. I liked the movie adaptation, because I think Snyder is a fantastic director and the "Times they are a changing" sequence might very well be one of the greatest scenes the genre has ever produced, but most of my problems with the source material remain.

This series has the potential to either expand on the original story and bring it into the present... or to be utterly redundant. And so far it could really go either way but I certainly hope it's gonna be the former.

I guess it just makes me wonder why bother making it Watchmen if you're gonna to so far off source material and story? It feels like they just had a completely separate story, and just gave it the name 'Watchmen' so suits would green light it.
Like what they did with Starship Troopers. It was originally called Bug Hunt at Outpost 9 and was renamed Starship Troopers to sell the script.

I'm far more interested in the putative Judge Dredd / Mega City One TV series rumbling away that trying to rip a few more bucks out of Watchmen.

Alan Moore despises Hollywood and its adaptations, so he's not going to be involved.

Brand recognition.

Oh no I get that. but my point is the fan backlash far outweighs the brand recognition boost. Like a show involving a young girl who is raped as a child by her stepfather but develops lava based super powers and travels through feudal Japan fighting against the demonic forces of her stepbrother as noble houses fight over a magical lake that heals puppies. I'll call it...Gundam Wing 2020.
At some point I've missed the point of the brand recognition.

Watchmen is a daft thing to make a sequel to. The ending of the comic was so great because
you don't know whether the guy will find the journal in the crank file and whether he'll believe it and whether it'll get printed and whether anyone else will believe it and whether that would lead to Ozymandias's dente ending and whether that would lead to the world ending in a nuclear holocaust.

Christ, what is it with handing cash cow IP's and franchises off to the biggest hacks in the entertainment industry nowadays? Did the industry at large see Dexter's final season and simultaneously all think to themselves, "well, fuck it. The nerds will watch it, talk about it on social media, and buy all the merch no matter how bad it gets, and we get paid anyways so why even try?" I mean they're not wrong, but holy fuck, mate. How HBO went from reigning king of SFF television to "well, it's not Honey Boo-Boo", I'll never know, but this shit gotta stop.

I think you might have answered your own question.

Why put in the effort when in all likelyhood it won't make much of a difference profit wise, if any at all?

I wanted the 2009 movie with a TV show's pacing. That's all...was that too much to ask HBO?

I don't think anyone has ever used these words, in this order, in a single sentence, at the same time. Ever. I'm assuming you forgot the "/s" at the end.

You know, it'll be funny if the Rorschach gang are portrayed as villainous unhinged redneck conspiracy theorists who believe the journal because we as viewers/reader know that Rorschach journal is true.

So really, the crazy rednecks are the heroes and society is wrong. I'm going to go start watching Alex Jones videos, anyone suggest a good one?

Have you guy's forgotten me? The guy that loves 300 and Watchmen and only defended BvS and MoS as not the worse DC thing ever?

That's the thing, these are usually hacks with no small amount of status, whose status (at least among fans) is for being hacks, and despite this it has to cost a pretty penny to attach their name to them. Why shell out A- and B-list bucks for inferior, problematic, talent that sets potential viewers on guard by default? Surely to god it has to cost less to attach lesser-known creatives, who not only might be more talented (or indeed, talented at all) but are going to work harder for less money in hopes of breaking into the industry.

Have you used the word "great" followed by "director" to describe Hack Snyder in a sentence before?

He adapted 300 and Watchmen and they were pulled off because it didn't require much work. He's a great cinematographer; he knows how to frame and light a shot well. He's an awful director and film maker. If they left him behind a camera or made him a producer, he'd be fine. As long as he's nowhere near the visual design or writing teams. You wouldn't think it possible to make Superman as badly as those two films, but he managed it. The only reason it's not still talked about is because Rian Johnson saw Snyder ruin Superman, looked at Star Wars and said "Hold my beer." You can actually use "Rian Johnson" as a verb now (it means "to make something so bad it ruins a franchise").

He's not an awful director and filmmaker. And I have seen worse Superman portrayals.

No, I didn't. I think Man of Steel is the only movie of his I don't particularly like. Batman v Superman, on the other hand, is the only superhero movie to make my personal Top 10 of the decade and the only action movie to make my personal Top 5 of the decade.

To be fair, I rather like Rian Johnson and Star Wars: Last Jedi too. Not quite as much but it is probably my favorite of the new Star Wars movies. Well, Rogue One is also pretty neat.
