Why put in the effort when in all likelyhood it won't make much of a difference profit wise, if any at all?
That's the thing, these are usually hacks with no small amount of status, whose status (at least among fans) is for being hacks, and despite this it has to cost a pretty penny to attach their name to them. Why shell out A- and B-list bucks for inferior, problematic, talent that sets potential viewers on guard by default? Surely to god it has to cost less to attach lesser-known creatives, who not only might be more talented (or indeed, talented at all) but are going to work harder for less money in hopes of breaking into the industry.
It's probably because they have no small amount of status that they keep getting hired. They're probably better at selling themselves in an industry that basically runs on that. But that alone will probably not convince the showbiz execs. So how about also having worked on successful properties that made a lot of money? Now we're talking. Yeah, they're more expensive, but they have proven record in the real measuring stick for success. Talent? A nice bonus, but not a requirement.

As for the fans? Sure, a lot of them will piss and moan, but most of them will cave and watch whatever dross they're served anyway, and the execs know that.

So do we know if this is a sequel of sorts to the movie or a spin-off of sorts to the comic yet? Just wondering if we can be expecting any cameos from the giant squid beastie

Batman v Superman, on the other hand, is the only superhero movie to make my personal Top 10 of the decade and the only action movie to make my personal Top 5 of the decade.

To be fair, I rather like Rian Johnson and Star Wars: Last Jedi too.
Ahahahahaha, good one. Very funny...top 5 of the decade! Haha, too good. Yeah, "top 5", nudge nudge wink wink say no more say no more. Rather like Last Jedi, hahaha. What a comedian!

Yep! We'll see what portrayal HBO gives him now and hope this time is more faithful to the comic.

It's not that the movie is unfaithful to the comic in that sense, it's that people are morons who look at Rorschach fully prepared to let the humanity die in a nuclear holocaust and don't see anything wrong.

You are aware that opinions can differ between different individuals, right? That what you consider to be the absolute zenith of film making skill and talent could be absolute mindless dreck to another?
I knew someone who thought that the movie Doom (staring The Rock) was the greatest Sci-fi movie ever made and claimed that Reservoir Dogs was too boring to finish.
Some people feel that the Marvel movies are the greatest thing to every happen to movies since sound, while I find them formulaic and over-rated.
Some people adore Toby Macguire as Spider-Man while others hate him. Some like Andrew Garfield in the same role and still others prefer Tom Holland.

So I tried to look up what the HBO series' is supposed to be, and here's the answer I got:
All I got were more Questions...

Visual gag aside, most of the synopses I've been coming across have been vague at best, but the big one being that the main things they're keeping are the noir-style (which HBO does excel at) and the "took a different fork in the road a few turns back" approach to history and world building. It's allegedly set in the modern day with some points of commonality, but it's unclear where and how. If nothing else, it'll be interesting to try and see what they do with it.

I want to see where they're going with this. I'm not a huge fan of the original Watchmen, the plot's just a bit too much a relic of its time for me, too reply rooted in Cold War Paranoia and it's satire and commentary on super hero fiction isn't that timely anymore either. I liked the movie adaptation, because I think Snyder is a fantastic director and the "Times they are a changing" sequence might very well be one of the greatest scenes the genre has ever produced, but most of my problems with the source material remain.
For all it's faults, and there are a few, the Snyder Watchmen movie remains kind of the textbook case of how to adapt dense, confusing story telling into a film where a lot of the leisure you have with more-long form story telling just isn't available. The biggest change (if you've seen it and read the book, you all know what I'm talking about) is easily recognizable as a very good decision that insures the audience isn't distracted from the point of the scene by the rather sudden addition of a lot of necessary facts to understand everything.
