A lot of hard drives now seem to be basing themselves around the SATA-600 standard. Unless you're looking for an old SATA-300 drive, you'll be waiting a while for that to become mature.
this might sound stupid but is there a big difference between SATA 300 and 600?
I,m just looking for a cheap SATA HDD.

For hdds I would say the difference is very little but for ssds the difference is quite a lot.

And what I've read it going to take somewhere between June - November this year for prices to fall back to normal

SATA-600 should be faster, but only on a motherboard that supports it. Try and find a low-cost SATA-300 drive. They're pretty cheap at the moment.
thanks!
another quick question.
are there any brands/series I need to avoid or any brands you recommend?

probably a silly question but why not get an external hdd ? you should be able to get 1TB for under £100 easy (that said..i dunno how much a regular hdd would cost so maybe that isnt such a good deal )

I want it internalized to keep my desk clean and considering a external HDD is a regular SATA HDD mounted inside a case wouldn't make a price difference.
I,m also looking for something bigger then 1TB
but thanks for the suggestion.
