Well, I got big ones I can understand taking up a lot of space (all the Mass Effects, The Witcher 2), but the mind-bogling ones are:

Dragon Age Origins - 22 gigs in one folder and 8 gigs in another, thanks to its stupid handling of DLCs and saves being around 2-4 mb each.

The Force Unleashed 27 gigs, because it is one helluwa lazy port.

Well I've got a laptop, a desktop, and an external hard drive each with 500GB of space.
Mainly what fills them up are the .m2ts, .avi, and .mp4 files that I make for my Let's Plays. I've saved every video I've ever made and transferred it over to the 500 GB external HDD. I've only got about 140 GB left on it too.
Another thing that takes up space is my PC edition of Fallout New Vegas with over 5 GB of mods installed.
Before though my Steam games took up a good 100 GB on my laptop, but I uninstalled all the ones I don't play, which was everything except for Fallout New Vegas.

Battlefield 3 with all the expansions is pushing 40GB. This is mostly due to their horrible patches that usually take up 4GB or more.
Considering I have it installed on a 120GB SSD its rather painful. I would put it on my HDD, but WD Green drives are too slow for my liking.

Maybe that's generally true, but in the case of Max Payne 3 or RAGE, quantity does not equal quality.
While I'll agree that both games weren't... all that great, RAGE had some sizeable open areas. And while I honestly don't remember Payne that well, it did have decent texture resolutions, right?

Depends how you see "quality", really :)

RAGE's HDD requirements were due to massive texture sizes, and I think most of the HDD space taken up by MP3 is for cinematics. Dear God, that game has a fuckton of cutscenes...

You're right, though, quality is entirely subjective.

Know that feel bro, but after having finished Max Payne 3 I think the wait was worth it. Alas I cannot say the same for Saints Row the Third which was also big but not nearly as fun.

TERA was about 25-30GB from memory, took me a good 2 or 3 days to download with my crappy Australian internet.

As for pleasant surprises, Papers Please was only a 12MB download, expanding to 32MB once unzipped. Well it wasn't a surprise as I expected the game size to be pretty tiny but it was quite pleasant. For anyone who hasn't played the game I strongly recommend giving it a shot, its free at the moment and is waiting to be greenlighted on steam.

I have 1TB in my PC and 500GB in my PC...

I've yet to worry about things like this.

What does surprise me is when a game that I have bought the disk for expects me to download the game, despite having the disk to install off. Steam is terrible for this and that is one of the main reasons I hate it.
Not that I wanna be an asshat about it, but while Steam will default to downloading it after you add the Key to your account, you can just stop the download and install from the disk. Doesn't really seem fair for you to "hate" Steam, if that's a main reason.
So I've heard. After contacting Customer Support for about 5 different games and following their instructions, it has never done so for me. I tell it to install from the disk, so it starts downloading 20Gb. I can see the files on the disk, they are there. I've told it to install from the disk. It just doesn't, which is why I hate it.

I've managed to buff my Oblivion and Skyrim directories to 22 and 23GB, respectively. Thats about three times the vanilla size for Oblivion and double for Skyrim.

Oh, and I've got 30.2GB of compressed mods. Still barely makes a dent in a 2TB HDD, mind.

I installed RAGE, was like 17GB... ughhh
Needless to say after seeing how much space it takes up one might be inclined to.... RRRRRRReasonably be discouraged from keeping the game on their hard drive.

Anyways, you probably dont notice because it's all here and there, but games that constantly add new content start getting a bit heavy after a while. TF2 and League of legends namely. Didn't even realize until i installed them on my new pc.

Also if anyone uses any virtual instruments, those things take up LOADS of space. It's pretty much all sound files too so I don't know how that works. Just finished installing superior drummer and the "metal foundary" expansion. Takes up about 55 GB of hard drive space.

I got a 2 terabyte HD last year... It's getting full, mainly because of Steam. Might be time to get a new one pretty soon in fact.

How are people listing games between 11 and 18 gigs as "space eaters?" Are you guys kidding or what? I mean, yeah, they're big, but they aren't massive. In fact, that's a pretty average size for games these days.
Considering how Link to the Past clocks in at a half meg, and the much more recent Terraria at 22 (before map generation), it is interesting to see how much data sizes have ballooned without the games necessarily getting much better. Hell, I'd play LTTP 5 times over before half of the games listed above your post.

Eh, I've got 2 TB of HDD and 256GB of SSD space. I think I'll be ok for a very long time.
I used to think that way... Then years went by, Steam sales happened and now I'm sitting on just shy of 1TB of installed games, 33GB of mods, 73GB of installers/ISOs, 748GB of movies and TV shows, 125GB of photographs, 49GB of music... [sub][sup]and an undisclosed amount of porn, of course.[/sup][/sub]

I need yet another hard drive :(
Or you know, you could be a normal person and try uninstalling some games. Why would you keep 1TB installed?

Because then the next thing that they'd get an impulse to play would always be the one that was uninstalled and takes two hours to reinstall. It's not happened to me yet but IT.IS.INEVITABLE.

My biggest ones on PC are: Max Payne 3 (33GB), The Witcher 2 (22GB), Mass Effect 3 with all DLC (16.1GB), Bioshock Infinite (17GB), DmC (11GB), New Vegas with all DLC (10.3GB), The Last Remnant (11GB), Skyrim with all DLC and a crapload of mods (10GB).

I only have 49GB of free HDD space from a 750GB HDD:9...

On Xbox it's FF13 and L.A Noire. They were around 22GB each.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is 25 GB. Which strikes me as insane for a single player linear action game. And as had been mentioned, Max Payne is 30 GB, pre DLC. Those are the only ones that surprised me with their size, as others I have seen in that neighborhood are MMOs, which I expect to be big.
