So, it seems most people here use Steam (like I do) and probably rarely ever check other digital distribution platforms, but today, upon checking Direct2Drive I found out a timer for a spring sale. I suppose they're gearing for something ala Steam Holiday Sale, and if so, it might prove to be worth checking.

P.S.: As far as I can see, looks like a worldwide sale, as the counter shows up for EU, US and UK sites.

Yay Sale! Boo Direct2Drive.

Thank you for the key in on deals, and had this been GoG, Gamersgate, Impulse or Steam I could get excited... but I can't help the feeling that at every turn Direct2Drive are trying to screw me.

Games require unique patches, D2D's protection is notorious for causing conflicts with games and (I don't know if this is still true but last time I checked) has an extremely limiting policy on re-downloading titles that you have bought and paid for.

Even at the price of 50% of cheap, whenever I use D2D it feels like I have just thrown my money into the fire.

Woah o_o had no idea about this. Care to elaborate, please? If I end up buying something, I'd like to know exactly what I'd be getting into.

Its been a long, long, long time since I have used D2D so they very well could have changed their policy. But back when the Digital Distribution Wars started up, the reason I went to Steam instead of D2D was that D2D would only allow you to download your game from their servers for 3 months. It was your responsibility after that to keep the game backed up on a DVD or an external Hard drive.

Let me go check their policy's, they may have changed it at some point to remain competitive.

Yep, here we go, it seems that D2D has actualy become even more restrictive.

Right from D2D's ToS. [http://www.direct2drive.com/staticpage.aspx?topic=tos]

Our obligation to deliver any Product to you shall be complete at the time when and place where you first receive the information necessary to commence download of such Product. In all circumstances it is your responsibility to ensure that the Product is correctly and completely installed on your computer. Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, and regardless of whether Download Protection applies, it is your responsibility to keep the Product from being misplaced, damaged or destroyed, and IGN shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, damage or destruction. IGN encourages all its users to appropriately back up the Product files and any other elements associated with the Products (such as key information).

Once D2D has sent you the game once, their obligation to you has been completed. They do not need to provide you additional access to the product, they do not need to allow you to download it again even though you paid for it.

Edit: And this is odd. Why in D2D's support page do they have Steams FAQ [http://support.direct2drive.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=3091] up? I cant directly link to it, but just search for "Steam FAQ" and it comes up... odd.

D2D is expensive all year round. I will never buy from them anyway, thanks to the special patching.

Well, talk about a downer... still, better to know before than after purchasing, thanks a lot. I guess I'll pass on this sale.

Nice find dude, you are right about steam users not checking other distributors.
