Ah yes makes sense. I was not sure if you were talking about the boss fight with her or just in general. It is damn stupid that in the center of the enemies power, they did not do all they could to prevent such things from happening. I think that was just one of the many instances of lack of foresight from blizzard however, and her character suffered for it. Granted she didnt have much of a character to begin with really. I mean her name is basically a joke, referring to whitemane(pale is white ish, and a "tress" is a lock of hair, so whitemane=paletress).

As for Sylvanas, I used to like her quite a lot as a character, but they really shot her in the knees with EVIL. I mean there is almost no reason for her to go as far as she does with some of the acts she has committed. I suppose you could blame that on her not having an outlet for her anger anymore now that the Lich King is neutralized. The one thing she dedicated her life to end is now gone, so I figure she is taking it out on everyone else. That...or I am giving blizzards writers way too much credit, and they are setting her up to be a raid boss like Garrosh.
Didn't know about the "tress" part of her name, but the "pale" part was rather obvious. I'm not surprised at the lack of subtlety though. Blizzard basically has none sadly.

Sylvanas is on the fast track to become a raid boss yes and that's a shame. They had a chance to turn her around in wotlk, but they botched it so damned badly in Cataclysm(an apt name for reasons I bet blizzard didn't like) that it ain't even funny. That's before getting into the bullcrap they've been doing with the forsaken like lolplague and the -thing of a camp- in hillsbrad that makes me want to vomit whenever I see it.
I can't say it was unexpected given the writing in Wings of Liberty, though. The fact is that Chris Metzen doesn't look like a classically trained writer as much as an artist and graphic designer, and anyone who views his past work for Warcraft: Orcs vs. Humans, Diablo II, and fictional pieces can see this. Our expectations have simply changed since he entered the business and we expect new directions or at least something different than the typical mold we experienced during our younger days.

Another major problem is that a lot of the issues with World of Warcraft are coming from the system itself. The game is now approaching nine years of being displaced from the original position the game had of Red vs Blue. World of Warcraft worked up through Lich King because the faction system was for the most part, representative of the actual faction loyalties. Ever since Cataclysm, we've entered into a situation where the old Red vs Blue faction mentality is just breaking apart left and right. Some players love being evil and want to go with Garrosh on power mongering. Other players want to work more with the Elves, and I'd imagine some still would rather be doing subterfuge shenanigans with Sylvannas. The only side that still holds at least some factional cohesion is the Alliance, and even they have a split with the now insane Jaina. We really should have a four way battle on our hands with four factions, but Blizzard doesn't want to split the red vs blue paradigm up anymore since they might have to merge them later after all this is over with. Talk about a let down.

can not wait for the day when the Blizz name alone does not help them to sell so much to the legions of fans. For a pc game its over priced. even more so for an EXPANSION.

Good for you, Blizzard. Is there any chance you're gonna use all your money to get some real writers to replace Hack Metzen? No? Okay.
Of course not. The writing's never been great, but it does amuse me at times. I think Metzen keeps his job security by keeping it all in his head, and just rewriting things when he forgets what he was doing.

He also seems to really like turning women evil, but I don't want to think too much on the implications of that.
"Amuse", yes, at best :)

It was in one of the first cutscenes of Heart of the Swarm that I thought "god, a line that bad must have been written by Metzen". It's not the end of the world, Starcraft now seems more like a scifi B movie than it did at the time of SC1, but everything else is so nice, if Blizzard hired a good writer the impact of the whole thing could be much greater.

Anyway, this news is interesting because it's an expansion to a 2-year-old game, that sold almost as well as the original. Now let's hope Legacy of the Void does not take that long.

It's an expansion with a significant amount of content, really in terms of single player it has as much content as the original game, if not more. And it's good. Maybe people buy the games because they like them? Just a crazy thought :)

I enjoyed the single player HOTS. It kept mixing up mission types, and they all felt story relevant, unlike Wings with the 'blatent filler' segments. I didn't get it day 1, didn't get the collector's edition, I waited to see if there were any problems, and the like. Some people just enjoy this kind of thing, and since Blizzard didn't do anything horribly stupid this time, I'm not depriving myself of the next chapter in cheesey Sci Fi RTS action.

If you don't expect the Great American Novel, it can be rather entertaining. I cite this exchange during mission 2...

Kerrigan: Just like old times!
Jim: Eh, my hair's got more grey in it.
Kerrigan: And mine's got more...zerg...in it.

Well, SC2 was damaged beyond repair by changing Kerrigan's voice actress from something I knew to something I know. I just cannot get over the fact that Kerrigan now sounds like EDI off ME2/3..been playing it too much maybe.

What pisses me off is that Starcraft 2 copied the Warcraft 3 story formula (3 enemies fighting, one big enemy comes, we have to unite) and people praised it.

I don't hate Blizzard, I just have high expectations from them.

I sincerely doubt Metzen has done any kind training what so ever in regards to writing when he keeps doing mistakes that's so blatant even a novice like me can point them out. That's before we even get into how the entire 'war' in Cata and onward doesn't make a lick of sense.

Honestly they could've kept the Red Versus Blue thing going if they hadn't been so galactically stupid as to start a war between the two as the game works for a cold war'esque environment between the two, but the war was basically them boarding the express failtrain to failtopia. Their horde bias didn't help either, but given how that turned out for the horde, I'm not sure I'd ever want an alliance bias in the slightest since it's synonymous with getting said faction screwed over by a team of hacks who couldn't write their way out of a kindergarten assignment(like all the nukes that the horde pulls straight out of their arse or the headachingly idiocy of the theramore scenario where not a single flier or ranged unit does a damn to try and stop the zeppelin).

Only reason MoP wasn't a complete disaster is because there was basically pretty much nothing to fuck up to begin with, but the moment we start dealing with known stuff, it jumps straight off the cliff again. So yeah the entire thing is broken in ways that could've been easily avoided by employing something so breathakingly spectacular like common sense. So rare it's a superpower indeed. /rant
Yup, and one wonders why the entire game has turned into a grinding through-fare. I'm at a point where I just don't want to play the game anymore due to the only thing interesting being guild politics, and honestly I'm tired of being shuffled off to die repeatedly in instanced raid content just to appease the slow progression grind wheel blizzard has dedicated it's life to perfecting.

A PC-only title sells 1.1 million. Meanwhile shooterized multi-platform Deadspace 3 struggled to break 1 million (has it even?). Yes PC gaming is dead. /sarc
