The demo is currently available for free download from the Playstation Store. So has anyone played it? And if so what did you think?
Personally I enjoyed it and was only disappointed that there wasn't more to it. The first part is played from the point of view of Private Detective Scott Shelby and includes a somewhat long QTE action sequence. But the QTE aspect of it was well executed in my opinion. Each button/analog stick prompt gave me a pretty decent amount of time and although I made a few mistakes I was still able to successfully finish it on the first try. In Heavy Rain if a character dies there is no game over or continue. The story simply proceeds without that particular character. And this makes the fear of failure all the more real since permanent character death is such a real possibility. And as a whole I found the whole sequence all the more exciting as a result as well as all the more satisfying when I finished it successfully.
The second part switched to the point of view of FBI Profiler Norman Jayden as he investigates a crime scene. But what makes this part interesting, at least for me, was the way he's able to do it. He uses a special Prototype device called ARI, or Added Reality Interface, and for me it made the experience cool, especially when I compared my own efficiency to the hapless cops in the area. This part also provides the player with a good example of the "context-sensitive" aspect of the games controls if they're thorough enough when examining the scene. The somewhat unusual finger work involved may feel a bit awkward, but I think that's the point. It seems to give the player a better feel for the kind of uncomfortable position that the character is in. Or in other words it helps the game's immersion factor.
So I found the demo to be a rather enjoyable experience and I'm very much looking forward to the game.
But as I said before what do you think?
