Right my Asus eeepc Notebook has contracted a very annoying virus.

I can't enter safe mode, I don't have a windows XP disc because it wasn't sold with the laptop, any time it connects to the modem (wireless or ethernet) it forces a reboot in the modem.

I believe I have narrowed down the cause a J8lux.dll in the temp folder which wont delete, though scanning the program with Spyware Doctor has produced zilch. Still it wont delete and when I try to delete the other file it just returns.

I also have a program running in Task Manager named hfxwt6ltr5.exe which doesn't seem to be doing anything, and doesn't change anything when I end it.

So to reiterate.

1. I can't delete these files
2. I can't enter safe mode
3. I wouldn't know how to clean all of this up in regedit
4. I can't connect it to the internet to get an anti-virus program (I only have Anti-Spyware)

Why does universe hate SpaceMedarotter?

Go to an internet cafe with a USB flash drive, download AntiVir, Avast or something like that, then pop that into your computer and install.

Run.
Or call chuck norris.
Or call a Help Line/Bring your laptop into Geek Squad. Mine had what sounds like a similar virus and they fixed it - although I did have to uninstall some files to fix it.

Have you tried restoring your computer to an earlier state?
If not, try that. It's worked for me at least twice.
If you need to know how, <url=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084>go here.

Quick!! Delete System32!!!

Really though, find a bootdisk with anti-virus software, like Hiren's or something, burn it, and boot the computer from it.

twice, no go. this has just been a list in a long mirad of problems with this laptop, including laggy boots, fake anti-spyware programs (don't worry I wasn't stupid enough to not know what they were)

I'm pretty sure most of this stuff got in through temporary folders.

1. When did it start? If it's not that long ago you can just do a system restore to before that time.

2. If you can't, phone a helpline that you trust. That last part's important, because otherwise you'll just get an Indian call centre blabbing on at you about completely unrelated stuff.

3. Get a friend to give you a decent antivirus program via USB flash drive.

4. If all else fails, destructive recovery. I'm sure if nothing else will work you can stomach losing all your files so you can access the internet again.

First, it's not AV SUITE is it? Nothing pretending to be antispyware/malware?

Try to do a system restore to a few days ago, before you had the problem. If you don't know how, reply and ill try to help you out.

Try to get a disc version of anti-spyware, trust me its worth it in the long run. Load your computer in safe mode, or start task manager RIGHT when your machine starts.

if you restored your machine and its still there, it is most likely in the registry, you need a serious anti-spyware program.

Internet loss? specifically started yesterday. Viruses in general? for a while now. I was running my anti-spyware program that picked up on a lot of viruses I got rid off but there's still problems

Never found a help line in australia that ever did anything more than run me through basic troubleshooting which a child would figure out and then give up.

Swat I'm doing right now with the other computers that work fine.

Can't. again I don't have a windows CD (Or CD drive for that matter) to reformat.

No no I for rid of that. I can't boot in safe mode, it gets to mup.exe, halts there and then blue screens. Opening task manager isn't a problem, but even closing all the programs and processes there that aren't a natural part of the system doesn't work.

Okay I've run Avast and Spyware Doctor both until there were no more viruses, my computer STILL kills the modem. Hold on trying a reboot now.
