Hey, a friend of mine is looking for a dog, she's looking for something around the size of a Beagle, quiet, mild temperament, short fur. Any suggestions?

EDIT: Her parents have had bad experiences with Beagles, so she can't get one

Just go to a shelter and see what's there, you never know. And shelter dogs are cheaper, too...

Plus it feels like you're saving the dog.

EDIT: Also, not all dogs of the same bred have the same temperament, so I wouldn't judge just by that.

Why doesn't she just get a beagle?

I encourage this but I have to disagree with the cost.

My six week old Labrador puppy cost less than any shelter dog would. You could also looking at some difficult veterinary bills by adopting too.

I was going to say the exact same. Shelters are usually filled to the brim and typically euthanize the animals they cannot find a home for.

Beagles themselves fit that description. I had one for most of my life, and they're great dogs, and always very friendly with their owners. The only downside I can think of is they might take off after an animal since they are hunters, and they have a specific odor to them. lol

If your friend wants something other than Beagles, maybe a Spaniel of some kind. They seem to be pretty nice and pretty quiet from the ones my friends have had. I'm not sure of any others to suggest at the moment though.

Well i live in cyprus and 1 of my dogs was from a shelter, 1 of them from a beach (all wet and bedraggled), and another on a motorway. cyprus is a hostile country to dogs thats for sure.

The only thing is that every Beagle I've met isn't quiet. And I work at a Dog Hotel, and we get lots of Beagles. It matches everything else except for the quiet part.
