Okay, so here's the deal. I have a friend who is not a major gamer but likes to sit and relax with one now and then. He really likes GameBoy games due to them being cheap now and easy to pick up and play. He is planning on getting an SP soon (He only has a color right now) and is looking for good games to get for it.

I told him about how awesome you all are at suggesting these sorts of things since there is a wide background and variety of gamers on this site and offered to post for him to get advice.

So here I am, asking you all to suggest games for him to try to find. He likes serious RPG's (Like Final Fantasy) and Strategy games (But not puzzle games...i.e. He likes Fire Emblem). He also likes good side-scrollers (Like Mario).

So good people of the Escapist Forums...I entrust his future into your hands...Any suggestions?

Ok, Sorry for the double post, but come on guys! Maybe I posted this at tke wrong time, but all I'm asking for is some good GameBoy game suggestions. Please help me on this one thing, as I know my friend would really appreciate it.

If he's getting an SP then he could play Mario Golf Advance or whatever its called.
See I played it thinking it was just a golf game with Mario characters. However, you don't initially play as Mario or his friends. Its like a golf RPG, you choose generic girl/boy character and play rounds to gain experience to improve your drive or spin or whatever. There's also ways to get improved styles of golf club. You gradually play your way through the different clubs and when you finish you get an invite to play with Mario and friends in the Mushroom Kingdom course.

Seriously, I'm not a sports game fan, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Summon Swordcraft series on GBA is also fun, its RPG style with side scrolling/fighting battles.

I would suggest more GB/C games, but unfortunately I havn't played much. All I could really recomend is Pokemon (duh), Zelda: Link's Awakening (probably no good if he isn't willing to invest the time) and Merlin (an alright sidescroller, nothing that really stands out).

How the fuck do you call Fire Emblem a puzzle game?

Pokemon (any of them, I would recommend LeafGreen Version)
Metroid Zero Mission, Fusion and Return of Samus
Sonic Advance 1, 2 and 3
Zelda: The Minish Cap
Yoshi's Island

Those are the ones I like anyway. Yoshi's Island is like Mario but more fun and with better bosses in my opinion.

An SP? So Game Boy Advance ya?

Golden Sun
Golden Sun 2
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (they're not like red/blue pokemon games, they're 2 different games)
Advance Wars
Pokemon games, if he's into those.

Can't think of any more right now.

He is willing to invest time, but not so much that he wants a console...He really likes being able to take something like it and just pop it open and play in a small space...That and the fact that he doesn't have much control over his money and something like a console would be far too expensive...

Sorry I wasn't calling it a puzzle game...I was calling it a strategy game...my wording was bad there...(Trust me I LOVE Fire Emblem and have gotten him to play it too...)

I think he means strategy games that arent puzzle based (ie. fire emblem)
Possibly he just has terms mixed up, because some puzzle games could potentially revolve around strategy.

Yes, what you just said is what I meant...He likes strategy games (Fire Emblem) but not Puzzle games (Mario vs. DK)...
