Heya,

My friend asked me yesterday for some help in finding him a new game to play and I told him I'd ask around, so here I am.
It needs to be for the xbox 360, and he would like what he calls an "adventure" game, but what the rest of us call RPG's :p
He wants something kind of like Fable/Oblivion/Mass Effect. He's never really been overly bothered about online play, and he HATES playing for DLC, but likes a good long game that you can really get stuck into and spend hours playing. He loves the 3 games I mentioned above, and fallout 3, so I was trying to think along these sorts of lines.
First of, I thought about L4D, but he's not into zombies and all that kinda stuff. And then I thought of a couple of others so thought I would ask here for some knowledgable advice seeing as I haven't playe either.
I was thinking, perhaps something like Dragon Age Origins, or Borderlands. I haven't played either of these, but have read MOSTLY good things about them. How do these games compare (gameplay and story-depth) wise to those aforementioned?? Also, has anyone got any other ideas?? He's not bothered about if it's a brand new release or old, as long as it plays well. He wants to get it at the end of the week, basically to keep him going until the new fallout comes out :p

Now, before anyone suggests it, and it's something I am gutted about. He doesn't want RDR. I told him to get it so if he didn't like it he could give it to me, but apparently he doesn't wanna just go out and buy a game he KNOWS he'll give to me after 10 minutes :p Nothing against R* in general, he's just not a fan of Sandbox games. Seeing how he loves ME and Fallout 3, this surprised me, but he's a strange creature like that.

So yeah, comments on my thoughts for him, and suggestions of your own please people.

Cheers

Out of the 2 you mentioned:
Borderlands is only fun when you are playing co-op, the single play is very weak.
Dragon Age is great as long as you can keep up with what is going on.

I cant think of any other xbox 360 RPG titles. Can it be xbox original?

Yeah, thats kinda why I came here and asked for help. Because I couldn't think of anything :p
Yes, he has Mass Effect 2 aswell, although unlike me, he wont get the DLC. He likes DLC as long as it's free :p But he wouldn't pay for it. So he wants a good game that has a damn good (and fairly long) story on-disc (i know this is getting a LOT rarer now in the age of the DLC).
It doesn't specifically have to be first-person as such, I just know he likes them kind of RPG's. But the amount of time he spends on Gears with me, he can't be completely opposed to a third-person view point.
As much as anything, this is also to ask about Borderlands and DAO, seeing as I haven't yet played them.
Something I forgot to mention in post one as well, whilst not completed opposed per se, I know he's not a huge fan of JRPG's (the amount of stick i get for being a final fantasy fanboy :(), but hey, if we can convert him, thats all good :D

I can't think of anything. I'd say tell him to get ME2 or that Dragon Age game. I hear good things about Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate too.

Your friend sounds reasonable when it comes to DLC. Borderlands is not an adventure game, more an MMO in gameplay. Haven't played DA:O, but generally they (Bioware RPG's) aren't sandbox like Bethesda RPG's. If he liked Fallout and Oblivion then he should LOVE Morrowind, so I'd go for that, except that it's like 10 years old. Depends on if your friend is a stickler for graphics.

Unless the graphics are so bad that they actually detract from the gameplay, he shouldn't mind too much. He's one of those guys thats "all about the story"

To answer hippo, I see no reason why it shouldn't be for the original, as long as it is one of the ones in the back catalogue that works on the elite.

In all honesty, I am ashamed of myself that I forgot about Morrowind. While it's been a couple of years since I last went on it, I used to play that for 8 hours or more at a time!!

And to "the unworthy gentleman" I have heard of both of those, but only I've only really read up a lot on Baldurs Gate. What are they like?
