I am making a Pokemon game of my own. One thing I cannot get is how to make AI. I want the trainer's and wild Pokemon to act like they do in the actual game. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

You could always buy a pokemon-game you haven't played and settle with that.

Unless you happen to like lawsuits. Then just try to copy shit from a cartridge or something.

Seeing as how nobody who has posted at time or writing has been really helpful I'll try. I don't know what you are making a Pokemon game with, but I recommend that you make it with various tools that allow you to mod roms. This way, you can maintain the actual AI and programming while changing the entire map, story, and Pokemon. I've done this a bit before and although it's still hard work, it'll give you a good idea of what you are doing and it's easier then going from scratch. A good tool to change the tiles and sprites is unlz.gba. But it only works with Ruby, Sapphire, Leaf Green, or Fire Red.

Also, to please Hubilub: Where are you making a Pokemon game?

You broke the trend, man. Be more on the ball :p

OP: maybe as a basic rule they start with status effects, and then move into attacks. Also, they switch to more effective pokemon. I don't really know what you're looking for.

an infringement of copyright, this is *insert chuckle here*

roms are called so, because they are meant to be Read Only Memory. if you use an emulator or whatever, this is illegal. that said, still cant stop super smash bros :D (on 64, of course... no really, i mean it...honest)

There you go, we caught em all!
I think this is the first derailing that actually stays on topic.

Or at least made a reference to the real subject

That sounds like a rather ambitious task.

My suggestion is to give assault rifles to the pokemons.

Good luck. You're gonna need it...For laying pokemon on PC, people just use Shoddy Battle [http://shoddybattle.com/] for online matches or just play *totally legit* ROMs on PC.

Does anyone know a way I can have the Trainers and Wild pokemon do what they would in the game by programming in Java?
