My current PC (also a laptop) has been dying a slow death for the last 2 months, so I really need a replacement.

I can already hear people asking: why don't you just get yourself a good desktop PC and save yourself a lot of money? Well, a couple of reasons:

1) I travel a lot (in fact, I'm living in a foreign country for a few months right now), so I don't have any use for a PC that sits at home for months at a time collecting dust. I'd rather pay a little more and be able to have a good PC with me.

2) For my work I need a laptop that's able to run some heavy graphic applications, so I need one that's up to snuff anyway, and getting two good PCs seems like expensive overkill to me.

3) When it comes to games, I'm not really a big graphics whore who needs everything to run silky smooth at 4k 60+fps on Ultra settings. If I have a PC that runs upcoming games for the next couple of years at low/medium settings, I'm very happy. Hell, my old laptop wasn't top of the line when I bought it 6 years ago and did a decent job keeping up. But honestly, if I can, I'd like something a bit better now.

Also, I'm a bit noob when it comes to PC hardware in general, so I'd like to know if people have some tips.

What brands to consider (I have a good history with Asus, but anything is fine with me), what parts to pay attention to (maybe especially which mobile GPUs are worth considering), possibly specific models that offer good bang for your buck. If I have a decent idea what to look for and what to avoid, that would be a big help.

At the moment I don't really have a budget (of course, cheaper is better). Somewhere around ?1500 would be great, but I don't mind paying a bit more.

Thanks in advance.

On you budget you can easily get an i5 laptop with a dedicated gpu. The Gigabyte P55K v4 is decent machine but the Gigabyte P55W v4 will give you better performance for the top end of your budget.
