Right, I've just got a regular stream on money coming in, and I fancy a new game. Now I really want an RTS, but I don't have a PC good enough, so its got to be either the PS3 or 360. (please don't kill me)

Now I know C&C: Red Alert 3 comes out in a few days on the PS3, with the promise of 1080p visuals and loads of bonus stuff, and sounds like the given, but its gonna set me back £39.99 at the least... I know there are other RTSesesesss out there, like End War, which has gone down in price, to name one. I just wanted to get a few opinions from the beautiful people on the Escapist. Any suggestions chap/chapettes?

Well Battleforge is out in a couple of days. No idea if your computer can run it, but i do recommend the demo.

A good rule is never ever buy an RTS for a console. I've got one and you can get the hang off it but the game type really is made for PC. I personally love the Dawn of War series (really didn't like Dawn of War 2 tho) so that's what I'd say. They're fairly old too wouldn't be hard to pirate.

If you don't have any of Blizzard's rts'seessses, buy any one of them and you should be content. Warcraft 3 has the system requirements of a goat, and Starcraft's is that of a dead horse. Yea they're for computers, but they ought to be old enough.

what are the specs on your computer, if their not too low then chances are you can run most rts's out there save maybe supreme commander.

in any case though, starcraft is the BEST FUCKING RTS EVER! and your computer will run it if it was made before the year 1996. but otherwise red alert 3 is awesome. im not an rts fan but ive loved the red alert series for years now. if you can the orginal red alert is awesome, its free online and your pc should be able to run it as well. as for endwar, id say no. its too simplistic and shallow an rts for me to recommend it to anyone unless youve never played an rts before, but even then there are better choices. id say go with red alert 3.

The console versions of Civilization are quite enjoyable, that is if you like the Civilization games.

RTSs are almost always better on the computer I have yet to play one on the 360 i've liked so I'm afraid I can't help you much here.

Seriously, my PC cannot possibly even imagine to run any sort of game at all, I use my laptop which can't even run the interface of PKR or Second life *sigh*

I personally don't mind playing RTS games on my console, I've had them before and generally enjoyed them.

Yeah, the Civilisation games are really good. Perhaps a bit on the short side but there's loads to play around with. All the games mentioned are pretty ok, you won't go far wrong with either tbh.

like others have said, rule of thumb is that RTS's only work on pc (because of the sheer amount of clicks per minute you can make vs what's on the Console).

But from what i've heard Halo Wars and Endwar have been the two best console RTS's we've seen thus far.

Well so far its between C&C, Stormrise, and Civilisation.
Out of those three I'd go for Civilization but I'm pretty sure that Civ isn't technacly an RTS.

Just buy the 360 you cant go wrong, yer theres some hidden charges but they far out-weigh the ps3 as a gaming console, a 360 is a home media unit a ps3 is only a console a computer they are yet to perfect the ps3 enough so for me to buy it anyways

Doesn't matter if you avoid Halo Wars. From what i know Command And COnquer: Red Alert 3 is brilliant.

If your on 360, I deeply and wholeheartedly recommend Halo Wars. I myself am pretty big RTS fan, and my personal opinion tells me its the best on the console market.
Seriously consider it

By a good quad core processor, then Supreme Commander and then Forged Alliance. Its epic scale, but you also need to be tactical to win.

( you need both, as forged allience has a new race, and much better AI, its also changes a load of stuff for the better. you need the original to play the 3 original races in Forged Alliance.)
