Kind of, but I also don't want to see her waste so much money (SHE DOESN'T HAVE A JOB) on a Xbox 360 AND a kinect when I have a perfect one that she can use any time. Also I know for a fact no wheres in her house is big enough for the kinect (you know, that whole, "stand farther away" thing that the Kinect does)
PS3 $300
Xbox 4gb plus kinect $300
I think you just want a ps3, this won't be good for a relationship let her get what she wants.
I just checked EB Games.ca and you're right BUT! that's only the 4 GB console so if she's gonna be gaming, she needs a WAY bigger hard drive then that.
Chances are she won't be gaming too much if she wants the Kinect and even if she does a 250 gb hdd is $50.

Just have her get what she wants.

@Quiet Stranger: Rather than repeat what everyone else here has said and call you selfish or greedy, I just want to say that I can see where you're coming from in this situation.

My boyfriend and I are both gamers, and he got his 360 a year before I bought my PS3. He and I are together quite a bit, even though we don't live together, and his owning an XBOX was one of the big reasons I chose to get a PS3. In my mind, it just seemed to make more sense that I get a different system than him since I can play his 360 with or without him whenever I want, and, whenever we move in together, we'll have more variety than if we both had XBOX's.

That's not to imply that I hate my PS3 or was pressured into buying one because of my boyfriend. I got a really good deal on my system when I bought it (on Black Friday 2009) and I absolutely LOVE it. I think both systems are really similiar and I enjoy playing both for different reasons, but the PS3 works very well for me. If your girlfriend really is debating between the two, let her know that the PS3 has some great exclusive games, like Little Big Planet 1 and 2, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 1 and 2, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War III.

I have a Move, though I haven't used it very much since I bought it (except to play Sports Champions). I think the Kinect is a better accessory overall and has the best motion-control game on the market (Dance Central), so if that's all she really wants, then maybe you two can go in on it together. That would definitely show her that you're supportive and excited about the two of you sharing a new activity.

I haven't played the PS Move, but I don't see how it could stand up to the Kinect. I'm not going to have fun by sitting in one place and waving a dildo around to simulate bowling. I started with that because I was just going to say what everybody else said.

Umm.. You could just show her couple videos on the internet about littlebigplanet.
And you could tell her that she needs to pay to play online whit xbox. Like you said she wouldn't play much so this would be waste of money for her.

On her defence: I think it would be pretty sweet to play whit your gf through online. (Play videogames, not her :p)

Well why does she want a kinect? >.> Did you even ask?

I can only assume she's one of those people that think it will "help her lose weight" GO OUTSIDE I SAY! or to the gym. I will ask her next time I see her. Other then that i can't think of a reason. Maybe she's one of those people who thinks "ooooohhhh shiny, MUST BUY!"
It sounds like you don't know your girlfriend very well...
....we haven't been together for that long....BED TIME! I'm so tired
Well having followed your responses in this thread and gleamed what I can of your personality, I can't imagine you guys will last very long. Good luck though.

I wish the escapists rules weren't so strict when it came to swearing AT people, I have so many things for these but I can't say anything, what a predicament

You can try being just passive-aggressive enough to piss people off, but nothing so extreme that it could really be considered "offensive". That's what I do.

If you really want to swear at me though, feel free to do so with a PM. I don't mind.

How so on being passive aggressive enough?

1. I came in here expecting an ENTIRELY different discussion.

2. No, it's her money, let her buy what she wants. Why the hell would I help you convince someone to buy something they don't want so you can use it?

This. Kinect has been very popular, and is pretty innovative.

You need to sit her down and show her this video:

Once she knows her limits, she'll abandon the foolhardy notion of spending her own money or making her own decisions, but instead leave the technological decision making to the men, the way it should be.

Quite frankly, I doubt the chain attached to the kitchen sink will be long enough to let her even use a Kinnect, let alone go to a shop and buy her own console, so you're probably fretting over nothing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sarcasm aside, you should try renting a Kinnect and a PS3, that way you can both make an informed decision, together.

Who knows, perhaps it's you who needs to be convinced to get a Kinnect, not her to get a PS3...

I was Hoping the word Anal was gonna be mentioned alas no.

However on topic Motion controllers or indeed the motion tracking of the Kinect is all very gimmicky at the moment theres nothing out i would define as an actual game and not some mini-game family/party type game. Even the more "adult" fighting ones look terrible. However im not saying the Kinect is a bad thing, i really do think it will come into its own (just like joseph Fritzl......am i right??!!....high five!!.....no?! okay then) its just gonna take time for something which balances actual engaging gameplay with motion controllers i would personally like to see some kind of RTS with "Minotity Report" type interface although they will have to fine tune the voice recognition a little.
