Where can I find a band that can carry a damn tune, and still has at least semi-intelligible lyrics? So far I like Disturbed, Cradle of Filth, Avenged Sevenfold and Apocalyptica. You can use that as a kind of guideline.

I would have liked to help, as metal is fucking awesome \m/

BUT

Apocalyptica <-- this put me off massively, I dislike them very much, usually can't stand a tune for more than 30 seconds, it just kills my ears.

Well, if you don't mind listening to utter thrash, Anthrax might be up your alley.
Pantera is also badass.

If you want a screamer... I have one band in mind I've enjoyed thoroughly, considering I usually hate screamers, but at least these guys can carry a fecking tune.

Graveworm.

Other than that, I just listen to music. Genres mean little to me, but that's the one band I can confirm as being in the general vicinity of Metal.

If I must indulge you with what types of Genre... Anywhere from Classical to Metal and whatever classification Bagpipes fall into... dear Lord how I love the bagpipes.

Here you go - sorted by Metal Genres:

Progressive: Symphony X, Opeth, Dream Theater
Avant-Garde: uneXpect, Diablo Swing Orchestra
Doom: Sahg
Nu: Maximum the Hormone, System of A Down
Instrumental: Long Distance Calling, Kong
Power: Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Avantasia
Metalcore: Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine

Considering what you like you should try out the bands in nu, metalcore and instrumental....

Sonic Syndicate, Bullet For My Valentine, Slayer and Iron Maiden. That is, if we are discussing music.

Otherwise you can't go wrong with titanium!

Within Temptation is good if you don't mind a girl singing.

Listen to Hand of Sorrow/Solemn Hour or something and if you don't like, well that's all I've got for now.
