Greetings fellow Escapists. Now that the new Codex is out, I've been tempted to get started with a Necron army. To that end I need some help from you guys with what to get and what to avoid.

I will be picking up the codex and I figured I'd also pick up a set of Warriors, a set of Immortals and an Overlord to start with, with more units to come later due to lack of funds approaching the christmas season. I was wondering if this is a good basic pickup or if I should get something different to start with?

Na that seems like a good startup. Ive briefly read through the codex myself and that seems like a basic enough army. Thats your simple 1HQ 2Troop setup so it'll work nicely. Also what I would advise is maybe after a few battles before you buy any more, just use proxies like pieces of paper or coins etc for other models your considering. Try them out in a battle or two against different armies to see what youll like.

Also that applies for using named character models, like the fincast ones etc. Proxy first :) It sucks when youve bought and put together a unit only to find out they dont work as well as you thought.

I would advise against it, a serious heroin habit would be cheaper and more healthy.

Wow I am so behind the times, a new Necron Army codex! Fantastic!
Also yes start a Necron Army, they're my primary army and they kick all kinds of ass.
My advise, Warriors are best in big numbers, Destroyers are great for bombing around the place taking chucks out of Infantry, and Heavies? Well a couple of them and those enemy tanks aren't going anywhere.

Nope, thats a pretty decent start.

The main thing is the codex really, you can plan your army out from that.

There isn't really a right or wrong way to go about starting.

I started a hell of a long time ago so things have changed a lot since then but the codex and a few units to get you going sounds like a pretty good way to start.

As a former GW Employee I must agree with this, but your list sounds OK. Sell a vital organ and get the Ressurection Ark too?
