So I was waiting for Bravely Default to come out next month, but a recent development means I am gonna have a lot of time on my hands and no access to much of anything but my 3DS. So I need a new game to play.

I would really like to play something story driven, but I have already made my way through Fire Emblem and SMT 4. So I was thinking either SMT: Soulhackers or Phoenix Wright: Duel Destinies. However I have some questions:

1. Is the game play of Soul Hackers super similar to SMT4? I just came off of 4 so it would be nice if Soul Hackers was a bit different, and the trailers make it look somewhat similar.

2. Would someone who generally doesn't enjoy visual novels like Phoenix Wright? Only visual novel I've made it through is 999

3. Any other really good story driven RPGs I've missed on 3DS? Looking for recent stuff btw, so no original DS or Virtual Console games.

The Ace Attorney series isn't a visual novel. Nor is 999. They're point-and-click adventures.

If you enjoyed 999, you'll also enjoy Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward as it's a direct sequel. You'll also enjoy Phoenix Wright, I'm sure. Though I would suggest playing the rest of the series before you play Dual Destinies. It's not necessary, but there will be a LOT of blanks, if you don't.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is an absolutely amazing 3DS RPG title.

Soul Hackers is more like Strange Journey or the first Persona, in which you navigate dungeons in a first-person perspective.

Well, I went on the eShop to grab Ace Attorney and found Soul Hackers was on sale, so I bit the bullet and got both. So that's awesome.

Also I forgot to mention I have Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and EO IV. You both have excellent taste. :) Thanks for the help!

Soul Hackers tips!
Never increase the MC's Magic stat, he never learns magic and any gains to magic to him are a waste (at least until post game, where he needs 10 to wear a super good armor set, but that is best left to the very end)

Try to boost agility, as having high agility gives priority in combat (as well as dodging attacks like a pro) meaning he can use items and stuff in a pinch. Mc is very flexable otherwise, I suggest googling "Soul Hackers MC Build" to get a better understanding of it.

Nemissa is a great magic user, so go nuts! Her selection of magic is determined on how you answer a certain question:
-Upbeat (Fire and Expel spells)
-Calm (Ice and Death spells)
-Sexy (Lightning and some Almighty spells)

Whatever you choose, Nemissa will be tough if you get her magic high, keep her in the back row, the stats best for her are:
-Mag (for attacking)
-Int (for spell defense and magic hit rate)
-Agility (for evasion and speed)

En and Luck, I wouldn't bother much with for her.
Awesome! That's good stuff to know! Especially for the MC's magic, don't wanna waste stats!

I kind of like harvest moon a new beginning, but haven't been playing it recently. If you haven't played harvest moon, it's fine if you go into this one. Otherwise, the slow start, and I do mean very slow start, is definitely off-putting. As well as basically working in this title, since you are a farmer after all. It doesn't have much of a story.

Also, tales of the abyss. PS2 port however, and it is quite a bit older. But I'd say give it a look if you haven't already.

Now, I just need to wait for freaking SMTIV to come over here... Stupid localization.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

The highest rated game ever created updated to your handheld. Now no one has the excuse to say that they missed it, if they have a 3DS.

Yes. The Phoenix Wright series is far more interactive and fast paced that your typical visual novel. If you are an adventure game fan whatsoever you owe it to yourself to at least play the first game in the franchise.

Slightly lesser known stuff...

It's very story driven with a ton of things to do and a fully realized world.

If you like first person dungeon RPGs you might dig this eShop release.

Well it's an eShop JRPG headed by Matsuno, so obviously it's a required purchase.
