After watching Jim play Skyrim by committee on his youtube channel I now want to replay Skyrim and I would love to do it as a pure Mage as when it comes to high fantasy Magic is always my favorite.

Unfortuantly as we all know by now, magic is kind of shit in Skyrim so I am looking for good magic mod recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about mods, but I started a pure mage character in vanilla Skyrim a while back. What I learned was don't just specialize in offensive magic. You want to gather ALL the magic you can: healing, buffs, stealth, magic blades, and especially summons. Summons will provide you extra support to make up for your lack of...durability. And while you want to use head and probably even body gears that give you magic buffs, use high quality light or heavy armor everywhere else. Enchanting will be your friend, as well as alchemy, and potions in general.

Well, i can help with it since i started a similar playthrough last week. Just for starters, i imagine you have the nexus account, and etc...?

Ok, the mod i recomend are the:

Apocalypse Spell Package: It's a very fun mod, with a great deal of spells and with some adjustements to help make magic more viable in the game.

Forgotten Magic: It's the same, new spells and rebalance, it is a little more...Balanced than the Apocalypse, but you can use both of them at the same time, and that's what i'm doing.

Balanced Magic: Same of the two above, but with some more thought into the mechanics of the magic.

Staves of Skyrim: It includes staves that you can use in the game just to make you really feel like a mage!

And just to spice things up?

Alternate Start - Live a new life: Yep, with this baby you can start the game with some new backgrounds of your choice, and if you're feeling lucky you can actually go random.

Go with the fixed Midas Magic mod.
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/44197/?
- Extend the Magic system of Skyrim without disturbing the current spell systems
- Maintain the balance of the combat system (WIP)
- Add a completely different way to obtain these spells from the normal system
- Add exciting quests and new worlds that make obtaining these spells fun (WIP)

All the mods I've used for magic based characters have been mentioned so I'll say this. Think outside the box when it comes to what kind of mage character you play. I had a lot of fun making an Arcane Assassin that refused to use any weapons that she didn't conjure herself. Pair that up with a focus in Illusion and I could clear out entire rooms without ever being spotted.

Look up some other builds to see what you can find that goes beyond just leveling up Destruction magic because that really will make the game boring after awhile.

Magic isn't shit. Magic's pretty weak at first when you have weak spells, bad mana pools, and your armor gives you no defense and very little increased mana or damage. But when you get better spells, increase Enchanting, get the magic perks (especially Duel Casting and decreased mana cost), get incredibly heavy gear that also has great buffs on it, it's debatedly more powerful at straight up combat than anything else. Not stealth archer overpowered, but pretty freaking close. Duel casting fire spells, on top of setting people on fire and splash damage, completely staggers all types of enemies so you can run through fights without taking a hit.

Mod to go for is SkyRe, if you want to use one mod that completely refuses to play with other mods. Rebalancing the perk tree is enough.
