Although I cannot make anything at the moment I can in the future and that's my plan. I'm puting together ideas right now and I would like to know what kind of things I should put in.
Stuff like:
Real time or one click combat
Good Evil/Alliance Horde or No factions
How many races what type of races
Fantasy or Sci Fi
Class based or Skill based system
What type of leveling system
and the list goes on and on.
So can anyone help me out?

im not giving you G.

o wait

i would focus on creating a world and then putting a game into it. You don't need developer training to write backstory and setting. Once you have that, the game can be fit to the environment-- too often do people make this clickity clackity game engine and try to fit a poorly written and rushed storyline into it/.

alrighty then start buying lotto tickits because you will need an estimated quarter billion dollars for development of a game that can survive in the market and be profitable against world of warcraft

An idea I've had is that it's set in, like, the Middle Ages. Different factions, ruled by a king or queen or lord, with armies. And the king/queen/lord is a player. Everyone in the army is a player. Smiths, traders, farmers: players.
I think it would be really cool if done right, but it would most likely be crap, since who'd wanna be a farmer or some such.
Anyway...just an idea.

Ok, to answer your questions.

Real time or one click combat
Why not both? Let the players decide which they want.
Good Evil/Alliance Horde or No factions
Don't have just two factions, have several. More fun that way.
How many races what type of races
Dunno, something humanoid?
Fantasy or Sci-Fi
As long as it looks good it doesn't matter.
Class based or Skill based system
Create one. Be different.
What type of leveling system
Try making a new one instead of the one everyone else uses.

I think the problem with MMO'S nowdays rests with the players, in that they only want quests, items etc that directly benefit them. If you try to make a game in which players actions benefit the community rather than themselves they won't like it. Then there's also the whole "solo-ing" nonsense...

As for the OP I might have suggested ideas if your aim had been to merely imagine this game but your honestly considering trying to design an MMO? Needless to say game creation forums I frequent are filled with people with similar ambitions and I've yet to hear of a successful MMO coming from them. As for designing one...what will that prove exactly?

I would suggest you don't waste your time on an MMO as the chances are extremely high it won't be made and just focus on a single player RPG, at least that way you could always use a team to create something.

Find a niche that another MMO hasn't filled, and fill it. How about a WWI MMO? I think it'd be quite interesting.
