I am running Windows XP and I cannot hear a thing. My sound seems to have shut off since a power surge and I'm having the issue of lack of sound.

EDIT: I know almost nothing about computers so I'll need a tutorial. :p

I don't know how do either of those things. :C
Restart your computer and click on the sound icon in the bottom right toolbar to see if it is on. Try seeing if your speakers are plugged in. Try seeing if the speakers are actually turned up.

Are you sure that the sound system is plugged in correctly?

If so you going to have to look for audio drivers. Try Realtek.(google it)

If it was a power surge that did it you might be kinda screwed. Your sound card may have been damaged. I'd take the computer in to get it looked at.

....honestly, no matter how computer inexperienced you are...I find it hard to believe you didn't check your speakers first. Thats like...common sense outside of computers. (high fis and such)

Got it! I had my subwoofer unplugged. Thanks for the ideas guys!
Get your self a UPS if you live in an area or a house that is prone to surges. Even if all you can get is a crappy $60 one that lasts 15 min you can save your self some major costs to repair or replace your computer.
