Do any of my fellow escapists have an USB transfer cable?

I am thinking of buying one, but I am not shure about its speed or compatibility.

So here are my questions:

1. Will it work if I want to transfer files from WIndows XP to Windows Vista?

2. If yes, how fast?

I apologize for my bad English.

It will work fine transferring from XP to vista.

As for the speed it depends on the quality of cable / computers, it will go 20mb/s and above.

You cant go wrong with USB.

Your English is fine by the way.

Your English is a hell of a lot better than my Lithuanian =]

I'm pretty sure XP and Vista are compatible in these sorts of situations.

It's fairly quick, if you want serious speed though, an external hard drive is better. I can transfer 1GB in about a minute.

Why don't you just use a normal network to move things around?
Have you tried networking between XP and Vista? It's an epic pain in the ass.

I tried. A very annoying procedure ( xp and vista arent exactly best frieds), and when i finally did it, it was painfully slow.

I would follow this helpful man's advice and, providing you have the extra money, get an external hard drive.

Good for transfer, and then there's the extra usage of being able to permanetly store stuff on there so you don't have to worry about it, or take up space on another computer. Just fricking useful really. I'm getting a Terabyte-enough to store my laptop's entire hard-drive (windows 7 partition and all) 5 times! Pointless but hey, I'm 15...and its fun

Could you link me to a site to do that? Because my home network hasn't linked computers or printers or anything for a while, and seeing your post, it might be because my brother got a Vista laptop and everything else in the house is XP.
