This has happened before and which led me to have to borrow a cd if I ever wanted to play Oblivion. My Oblivion cd is not reading, but now it's not even letting me uninstall. Therefor I can't play Oblivion D: if whomever helps me needs more info I will gladly give. I've played oblivion tons of times so I have a dvdrom.

Take the disc, and hold it up in front of a light source.

If you can see light through any spot on the disc where is should be silver, it is trash. Otherwise, repair/clean it.

If neither of those help, you may have a faulty disc.

Well, I had a burned copy of the disc before and it too has not worked. This disc is pretty smudgy though. Any homegrown techniques on how to clean this badboy up?(can't see light through woohoo)

Do not use household materials like Windex or something of the sort. Do not wipe in circles and don't spray directly on the cd.

That being said, does the computer start reading it and gives up or just won't even acknowledge it and have you tried it in another computer?

Edit: You could use the so called "toothpase method" in which you rub toothpaste on it very gently (no scrubbing), leaving it like that and then gently wipe it off from the center to the edge. It's an abrasive and it will generally work for scratches. I've only done it once or twice and it worked.
