So this guy I work with has a dual monitor set up. One is using DVI and one VGA. Everything works fine for him except for one thing. Whenever he starts up his computer after shutting off or rebooting, he has to unplug one of the monitors and plug it back in for the image to show up on that monitor.

I'd like to help him but frankly I have no clue what the problem is. I was hoping some of you had some ideas on what to do.

Use a splitter cable on the DVI ouput to run both monitors. Works like a charm.

Ignore VGA entirely.

Had that happen to me for a while. Don't know what started it, but it was continuing even after I updated drivers and everything. The thing that finally fixed it, for no reason that I can fathom, was unplugging everything, moving my computer somewhere else, the re-plugging things back in. That, of course, is about as technical a solution as saying 'kick it', but it worked for me, so maybe it'll work for him.

As for the drivers, our IT guys are very capable of setting up a computer and he's had this thing long enough for me to be sure the drivers are up to date.

For the splitter, I suppose it's worth a shot but I don't see why that should be the only solution as we have other computers in the building using the same set up. They work just fine

Ultra bump.

Anyways, after looking at it again today, he's using DVI and a display port, not VGA. I installed the latest graphics driver but it didn't fix anything.

Any more suggestions?
