Run these games on full settings, if it can't run them full then What settings could they be run at,

Gmod, Half Life 2, Gta San Andreas , Team Fortress 2 and Half Life Source

First time building is fiddly though, its best to first time build with older cheaper stuff just in case and then progressing to the more expensive hardware after you have a feel for it, otherwise you'll just be looking and worrying everysingle time.

I'm not sure I do advise building your own computer. At least at first. Perhaps if you have someone knowledgeable to help along the process. It can be daunting diving in feet first with not a clue what to do.
