Hey all, I'm looking for a method or recipe to create green slime, the sort of stuff that used to be sold in toy stores circa 1985 - 1993. My half-brother's 8th birthday is approaching, and I want to give him a present similar to the stuff I got for my 8th. I've been to every toy store in my home city, and I've had no luck.

I was hoping that one of the science buffs (i'm sure there's several on the forums) knew how I could make the substance using commonly available items. I've done every websearch I can think of (including international toy stores) but to no avail.

I remember how much fun I had with the goop when I was a kid, and would love to share an experience with him (beyond computer games), so I'm really hoping some of you can help. Even if you're not a science buff, but know of a place that sells slime and takes mail orders to Australia, I'd appreciate the info.

Many, many thanks in advance.

Google failed me, or perhaps I failed google in my inability to explain to a search engine what I was looking for, but the site you provided looks promising.

PVA glue, Tetraborate and food colouring.

Where you get the tetraborate is.. up to you. Hard to find outside of labs, but it makes great slime. An alternative is to buy some.

Thanks all for the assistance and suggestions. It took me close to twelve attempts, but I finally got the formulas offered on the sites suggested by xXGeckoXx and Bkd69 to work. My little bro loves the goop, especially the glow in the dark stuff, though my mother is less than impressed with me (bah humbug to her heheh).

Thanks all for the efforts you put in, as far as he's concerned, I'm a god amongst men, and that makes you all superior to me for helping out.

Sorry I took so long to get back and thank you all, but you helped to make his (and my) day incredible. All of ya rock in my books, and I'll smack anyone who says otherwise upside the head with a goopy 2x4.

:D

Oh man. We made something like that in fifth grade...it's been five years, I'm trying to remember the recipe.
But it looks like you got help anyway!

Max, I'm always up for new and easy ways to make the stuff. I know that terry isn't going to keep the goop in a sealed container like he should, and so it'll dry out and I have to make more. If you've got simple recipes, especially ones I can make with him, I'll be glad to have them. The ones I did get working really shouldn't be attempted by youngsters.
