I've read thru the posts here and searched the web, but haven't been able to find anything on this old game I played back in the early 90's on my PC. It came on a CD and was a space based game that showed a view of the available planets on a black background. The user had to select one of the points (planets or solar systems) to fly to, then orbit the planet searching for different minerals which would show as your ship was flying over the terrain. When a mineral was detected, you had the option of picking it up (mining?) to add to your cargo. I don't remember much more about it, just that I played it for hours on end back in the day. Does anyone remember this game? I think the title may have started with the letter P, but not sure. Thanks.

It sounds a LOT like either Star Control 2 or Starflight.

Both classics.
