I got guitar hero 3 for Christmas and was wondering if the controller was compatible with world tour. I ask because there is a slide bar and they had to make new controllers since Gibson quit letting the use the license.

Yup. It's almost certain to be a lot more reliable than the GHWT guitar too. Likewise, the GHWT guitars are backwards-compatible.

EDIT: Actually, that bit about it being more reliable might not be strictly true, it depends on what system you're talking about. The GH3 guitar for the PS3 is horrendous, regardless of which game you're using it on so you'll probably be best off sticking with the GHWT guitar and hoping the strum bar doesn't fail like it seems to be doing in a large percentage of them. The GH3 guitar is awesome if you're on the 360, which is just as well because the failure rate of GHWT strum bars is horrendous - mine is currently in pieces in my room, waiting for me to order replacement components. No idea about quality on PS2 or Wii, but I do know that they're at least compatible.

Technically speaking, yeah, they're pretty much the same. At least, in terms of the guitar. The problem lies in the way they connect to the console.

Basically, the 360 GH3 guitar uses the same native wireless connectivity as the regular wireless controllers. By contrast, the PS3 version connects via a USB dongle plugged into the console, rather than by whatever connectivity the PS3 controllers use (Bluetooth?). End result: it lags like crazy, sometimes completely failing to register strums, button presses, or both.

It's one of those "your mileage may vary" things, some PS3 owners have less problems than others but in my experience of my friend's PS3, it was completely unplayable.

Thanks! I was thinking about getting world tour or rock band 2 as just the games without the guitars. I just wasn't sure if the GH controllers worked for world tour. Also I got it for the PS3.

I have the 360 version and the Aerosmith guitar and it works fine in World Tour. The parts with the slider works like the solos in Rock Band and all you have to do is tap the fret, no strumming required.
