I recently re-installed Skyrim to play it with mods, and it's been great so far. I started playing as Guts from Berserk themed character (two-handed, heavy armor etc.) and even found a mod for his "Black Swordsman" armor. It looks awesome ---> http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11784 but I can't get it to work properly. The item shows up in-game but doesn't have any textures on it, just a plastic-looking bare model.

I tried to contact the modder, but he hasn't commented on anything regarding the mod for months, and I'm way too impatient to wait for his answer. So what I'm asking is have you had trouble with this particular mod? How to fix it? I'm using it alongside a bunch of others, but they're mostly very minor and shouldn't conflict with a simple armor mod. Help please!

Edit: problem solved, thanks for help everyone!

Are you installing it manually or using the Nexus Mod Manager?

Assuming it's like Oblivion, whenever I have problems like that I've usually mixed up which bits I've put in the textures folder and which bits I've put in the meshes folder.

Does Skyrim require archive invalidation? Could be that.

Sounds like an issue with the texture files or a conflict with another mod.

Run BOSS and see if it gives any confict warnings.

Failing that use TESedit or Wrye Bash and see what they come up with.

Chances are it may be a mod conflict. I can't say if it has missing textures without using it myself and I don't have time at the moment.

So, yeah.

Try those and create a merged patch (or bashed patch if you like) and see if they work.

Step 1)Extract meshes and textures to its appropriate folders
Step 2)add and activate .esp

There should be no conflicts unless there is not compability with the version you are using. And that wouldnt happen unless u got a pirated edition :O ...

Manually. I figured out with neither with Oblivion nor Fallout 3 how those mod managers were supposed to work.

The mod had its textures and meshes in their own folders which were instructed to be put into the skyrim/data/ directory, so I think appropriate folders aren't the problem. I don't know if any of the mods require archive invalidation, and don't think so, since I'm runnin 10+ mods now, and none of them require it.

So am I supposed to first extract the meshes and textures, and then the esp.s separately? So far I've moved them all at once into the data/ directory. Could this be causing the problem?

Unless you didnt get a prompt message to replace or merge those folders it might be but im not sure which OS u got and if there will be a prompt message so better do it separately

The .esp goes in the Data folder, the textures and meshes have their own respective folders within the Data folder. Check the folder structure in the download to make sure it's not mixed up and the textures are where they're supposed to be

EDIT: Also the new Mod Manager is just a little application now that manages your mods separately for each game. When it's installed and you choose "Download with manager" it puts everything into the right place for you. I've had no issues with it just yet, it even tells you if the mods you have installed have a newer version available.

The .esp goes in the Data folder, the textures and meshes have their own respective folders within the Data folder. Check the folder structure in the download to make sure it's not mixed up and the textures are where they're supposed to be
The installation instructions go like this:
Installation:
Extract everything into your Skyrim/data/ directory

The exact directory for nif files:
...data/meshes/Berserk/armor/blackswordsman/
The exact directory for textures:
...data/textures/Berserk/armor/blackswordsman/
Esp plugin:
...data/

Activate the Berserk Black Swordsman Armor.esp if you want to use the iron arm.
OR
Activate the Berserk Black Swordsman Armor - No Arm.esp for use with other gauntlets.

Activate one or the other. Do not activate both esp at the same time.
When I said I moved the textures and meshes to the data/ directory, I was talking about the folders containing them, i.e. textures->Berserk->armor->blackswordsman->(all the files). I wasn't moving the individual files.

Ah, well then I refer to xefaros' post above mine, did you get a prompt to merge the Texture folder with the existing one?

This sounds like generic advice, but try deleting the mod and re-downloading and installing again in case the texture files are corrupt. But seeing as they're actually in the game and craftable (I saw you comment on the Nexus) the .esp is working. So it does have something to do with the Texture/Meshes folder.

BY THE GODS IT WORKS!

Turns out the problem was me all along. I already had a folder named "textures" in the data/ directory for a minor blood texture mod, and when the prompt message popped up I thought it was going to overwrite the blood textures, which of course it didn't. I also moved the folders and esp.s separately, dunno if it helped. All that matters is that now my characters badass level is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!

Thanks for help everyone!

Pirated versions often work better than authentic versions.

No annoying DRM to get in the way. ;)
Unless the DRM is implemented correctly meaning:No server downtime,no nasty bugs,no miss transactions etc etc,
But then there would be no need for legit users to take refuge on the crackers bandit camp.Which sometime pisses off users/buyers/players...etc

There is no such thing as correctly implemented DRM. Even Steam needlessly takes up system resources.
I am not talking about system resources. But DRM deserves its own thread to talk about and not bumping a helpful thread over and over

If you provide a thread for discussion i would gladly enter and provide my pointers

If the textures are missing and the model is in game, then either you are missing the textures or they are in the wrong place. If reinstalling the mod doesn't help, you could try replacing just the textures. usually, the path is

Data/Meshes/armors//mesh.nif files for meshes and
Data/Textures/armors//name.dds files for textures.

If that isn't working, it could be the mesh itself is pointing to the wrong place to look for the textures. You can check it yourself, but it's a bit technical. If you really struggle, let me know and I'll help out, but you can try downloading NifSkope yourself (goole it, very easy to find). Run it and open the mesh file (male/female/both as appropriate). There are two usually, an _0 and an _1, check one, both, either. You're looking for something like this:

YOu have to choose the category I've indicated (BSShaderTextureSet) and below, expand the textures list and you'll note the path to where it's looking for the textures. It should look like similar to that in my image. If not, post back what it is, but that path is where it's looking. You can either change the path to the correct one, or move the textures to where it's looking (assuming they're included in the download)

Or wait for the mod author to get back in touch :)

Also, why aren't you using my mods :-( They're awesome and you should support fellow escapists and play with their mods, endorse them and leave cool comments on their page :)

Well send me a link and I'll check 'em out. Also, are they on Steam Workshop or the Nexus?

Ah, I feel guilty for the self-promotion, but I worked a lot on these mods and they work well. My profile page [http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/users/1892262] is here, though doing advanced search on the Nexus for my name (same as here) should also return them. Haven't used Steam Workshop, don't know why but I don't like it. I like the community of Nexus...just a shame it's filled with so many mods that are basically porn.

The Golden Saints one in particular took me almost 10 solid days to get right. And then some fecker rips me off and releases his own version within a few days and copied a lot of my ideas :-\ I am very good at the scripting side of things so have done some clever things that don't (or didn't) exist in other mods. A bow with infinite ammunition, a suit like the Chinese Stealth Suit for FO3 (my most popular mod) and the Golden Saints. One thing I did that was quite cool, that the vanilla conjuration system can't, is that my spell can summon one of eight different creatures, at random. Took a lot of doing but I am quite chuffed with that :)
