Now before anyone says anything, I already tried reinstalling and looked to other sites without success. Now MW2 used to work fine until recently. It started by locking up periodically for breif periods at the start but now it fails to start up at all. The IW logo moves at an incredibly broken pace as though the FPS is less than 1, though the sound effects continue as normal and then just freezes requiring ctrl alt del to get out. My question is does anyone know how to fix this, and I guess for some discussion value have you ever had game that just worked fine an then one day suddenly broke? The main reason I want an answer is I'm worried the computer itself is at fault, though admittedly that seems unlikely since MW2 is the only game that does this, as it has broken down before.

What have you changed between it working and not working?

...and yeah I have a very large catalog of games that work one day...and break the next. It's usually my fault though.

Could be the game's not fully compatible with your video card or the drivers for the video card need updating to handle it properly. If updating drivers to the most current doesn't help and there's no specific support issues with it and the game, could also be a number of other hardware or software conflicts.

Seen similar things happen a few times while playing a game at the same time a virus scan is running once due to hard drive fragmentation causing unnecessary demand on RAM.

Were it an internet game I'd also recommend clearing out temporary files, but it's unlikely that even if it was checking for updates it'd cause significant slow down.

Back in the day, disk scratches could cause problems like this, but modern games would have to be installing with corrupted files to do the same.
