I am currently doing my third playthrough of Dead Space, first one on Impossible, and I'm currently on Chapter 8, but I am having a bit of weapon trouble.

I currently have a Plasma Cutter and Pulse rifle with the Damage and Reload speed along with some Capacity upgraded on each one, I've also got all of the suit upgrades. (Although I believe I have more upgrades on the rifle.)

My question is, should I keep going with these weapons, or replace one with a Line Gun or Flamethrower, and if so, which one should I get rid of, which one do I buy. I like the Pulse Rifle for crowd control, and I find myself using it more than the Plasma Cutter, but the Plasma Cutter is more accurate at range.

Please don't suggest getting a third weapon, since ammo is rare on Impossible, and two weapons are manageable, but I don't think three would be.

EDIT: I also already have the One Gun achievement, and I have all the damage upgrades for both, not just some.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
hard to go wrong with the line gun, its nice and powerful and doesnt require aiming much and is a fantastic OH SHIT weapon
the flame thower tho... I never found it that useful, just seemed too weak to be that effective

I'm currently playing through Impossible using just the Plasma Cutter, and it's quite easy. Ammo definitely becomes scarce after the Leviathan fight, but I'm swimming in cash so I just buy ammo on the rare occasions when I have none. I'm nearly at the end of Chapter 7 and I've got about 100k, and that's with a maxed rig (HP only, not air) and a fully upgraded Plasma Cutter (I bought quite a few power nodes during chapters 1-5).

Ways to save cash:

- Abusing stasis, i.e. going out of your way to visit stasis refill stations constantly during chapters 1-4 and then using it during all fights. Using stasis ONLY (not firing gun at all) during Chapter 1.

- Not buying suits. You don't need suit upgrades at all.

- Only using plasma cutter

- Selling all small health packs, stasis packs, air cans that you find.

- Keeping all the Plasma Cutter ammo you find, store it in the bank; do the same with medium and large health packs.

- NEVER BUY HP PACKS. Try not to buy ammo either.
I haven't had any problems with health packs, I have about 20 medium ones in the bank and about 5 in my inventory, and I haven't sold any. I keep finding them.

As for ammo, it has been getting scarce, but that's mostly because of certain enemies, particularly the tall ones that split apart when you shoot them.

As for cash, I have 113,000 and 4 power nodes, and I'm not spending any of it.

Anything is better than the pulse rifle. And why is there a problem when there is a weapon called the ripper at your disposal...?

First off, lose the Pulse Rifle. It does jack shit.

What you need are the Plasma Cutter, the Line Gun, the Ripper and then one other gun (I usually pick the Contact Beam). However, since you only want two guns, go for the Plasma Cutter and the Line Gun.

Keep four slots of each type of ammo, carry 5 medpacks, and always have a spare Power Node for the doors. Sell everything beyond what I just listed and use the money to buy Power Nodes to upgrade your weapons.

And BTW, a fully upgraded Contact Beam works wonders against the final boss.

Because the Ripper isn't very beautiful when somebody who has no damn clue what they are doing tries to use it. I have never used that thing before and I don't plan to do so until I go for the achievement.

Like I said, I will only get a flamethrower or Line Gun, and I want someone with experience to give me their opinion.

Really now? I've found it as effective as my Plasma Cutter in most cases. Even more so against the Leviathan, since the high ROF causes the damage to skyrocket if you keep landing hits on the damn tentacles.

Although I do think that storing it in the bank and picking up the Line Gun is a fair idea.

So what's the problem? 0-o

Just keep playing through with the guns you've got, if you're not having trouble
I guess I'll rephrase the question, if I run into trouble in the future, what gun do I sell, and what gun to I pick up.

Playing through on normal i found ammo was about the same loss/gain apart from the ripper which i managed to get stacks and stacks of. i would suggst that instead of the pulse rifle.

Oh right, well the Pulse Rifle is pretty useless, it chews through ammo too fast. Basically it does the same job as the Plasma Cutter, only uses up 100x more ammo. Possible less than 100x, but you get the idea.

I think the Force Gun or the Contact Beam are probably the best candidates for a secondary weapon to go alongside your Plasma Cutter.
Alright, I was thinking of the Line Gun simply because it would do the same as the Pulse Rifle, but more effective and with a better secondary fire.

Although now that I actually understand what the Force Gun does (Similar to a Shotgun's function.) I am considering it.

Scratch that, I'm just going to sell my pulse rifle and go with the Force Gun, since I understand it can easily kill Guardians. (The big guys with tentacles stuck to the walls.)

If you only want 2 weapons, replace the pulse rifle with the line gun.

But if you can find a way to fit it in, the final boss fight is piss easy with the contact beam.

I could always purchase it at the final store, right before the fight haha. It wouldn't really hurt. And I could just fully upgrade it there too. Again, wouldn't hurt since I am only trying to get the game done. Not playing this save again.

Okay, the be fair, the Pulse Rifle is good against the tentacles due to them being a relatively large target, but its not as effective in dismemberment.

The Plasma Cutter has a wider firing area, and the Line Gun will pretty much rip through anything and everything when fully upgraded.

If you want a replacement the line gun is alright, ALWAYS keep the plasma cutter and as for the pulse rifle, its great if you know what you're doing with it.
The pulse rifle is best against tentacles and bosses so go ahead and hold onto it. (It can also do well against the twitchers and those moaning tall guys)

When it comes to upgrading the suit, Id recommend you stop upgrading after level 3. The third one is the coolest and has the amount of spaces that you actually need.

I've purchased the Force Gun, and I plan on using that for the next while (I am now on Chapter 9), and if I have any problems I'll throw it out for the line gun. Thing is, again, the only real problem with ammo I have are these guys: http://deadspace.wikia.com/wiki/Guardians. They suck up ammo like a tank, but the Force Gun should handle them for now.

Trust me, if the line gun fired vertically, it'd own everything.

Drop the Pulse Rifle and get eiter Line Gun, Forcegun or Contanct Beam or The Ripper. In fact anything is better than the Pulse Rifle in my opinion. Other than that I don't see you running into much trouble and if you do there are always the cheats if you really need them.

Guardians...Explosive canisters, if you can get them, fired with Kinesis, make short work of them. The Line Gun secondary fire works well, too.

True, but I never had the chance to use the Line Gun secondary fire. Upside to the Force Gun, in the case I need to buy ammo, god forbid, the Force Gun's is cheapest at 900 credits for 3 shots. This is pretty good considering it's effectiveness at knocking enemies back, especially Twitchers.
