Help with finding a quote source

I don't recall was it a game, anime or a movie but as I recall it was voiced. I don't recall the full quote but it went something like "I , and prayed and did good deeds", and guy, who was saying it, was disillusioned or angry because despite his (I suppose) good behaviour he isn't still treated well or respected in return.

Does anybody remember where it is from?

I don't remember much about it but I think it was that guy attempt on redemption and he considered it failed or rejected. Also I don't recall any fantasy vibe from it, more like cyberpunk sort of mood. Does it help?
