Ok, so I have KOTOR on Steam and I have and always will love that game. That being said, Steam won't let me play it sometimes. It will minimize the game when I'm traveling between planets or sometimes during the opening credits before the Title Screen whenever I startup the game. Once it's minimized, I can't reopen it without shutting down KOTOR and restarting it, and even then there's like a 50% chance it'll just do the same thing again. How do I fix this? Or am I just derping with something?

Just wondering if anyone's had the same problem and how they fixed it.
(Not sure which section to put this in, but because it's a gaming problem, I'm putting in the Gaming section)

Does it do this in both online and offline mode?

Since I don't have the game, I can only grasp blindly. Any option to window?

Ok,
Win7 64-bit
GC: Radeon HD 4350
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 910
DirectX 11
More than enough RAM

Once the game's working it can do everything properly, but it's just those moments where it sort of freezes, but not really.
And yes, both offline and online.

Its Lucasarts fault for doing such a shitty job of converting the games to steam. I just bought Jedi Knight 2 yesterday. I am only able to play it now after downloading a shit ton of FAN MADE patches for it to even work.

Is it in windowed mode? I encountered this problem with Portal 2 via Steam in windowed mode. If not, then I would check to see if your saves got sent to the Steam Cloud and then reinstall.

I'm not too sure on this, but it's a good possibility that Steam doesn't provide support for KOTOR and future operating systems. KOTOR wasn't made to run on Windows Vista and later since it is an aged game. Fortunately, I helped a friend with this problem that couldn't run it properly on Vista when he installed it from the disk set. We had to install a patch that was later introduced for the purpose of providing further compatability towards other later operating systems, on top of having to run the installer under Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Saying this again, I'm not entirely sure if Steam provides support of this kind of thing, so I'll dig around and see what I can find. Until then, operating the program under earlier compatibility packs might help. This can be done be clicking over the shortcut, going to properties, and then selecting a specific service pack under the drop-down menu - Not rocket science so don't worry.

Sorry if I'm dragging this on as well.

Edit: Craptastic, the Steam Forums are down for me.

Nope, fullscreen.

How many monitors are you running? If you have a second monitor you can sometimes manage to get the cursor onto it, which would minimise the game if you accidentally click the mouse. Some old games don't like being minimised and will freeze up if you do so in the middle of a cutscene or other intense parts.

Confirmed: Steam doesn't provide support for the retail version of KOTOR.

Apparently, it's the same as the retail version. Same comparability problems, same issues, different client. I'll look more into it, it's getting late here though.

Steam is so annoying....I got the Secret of Monkey Island to play on my net book. As super duper basic game that in no way required me to be logged in to Steam....so why would they need to be logged in for KOTOR either...
I recommend just buying an old X box and the games and giving up on Steam. The problem is..I had to pay around $40 for KOTOR 2, which I loved more than 1, even though 1 is awesome too. I just like the Mandalorian storyline, the weapon switching, Jedi classes, and lightsaber customizing..in Kotor 2 better.

Or you could just buy the PC version over the main site for a lot cheaper...

Besides that, just try running it in a different comparability mode for now, attempt to disable some hardware acceleration, run it out of full screen, and disable in-game community.

Best of luck.

Heh, I actually switched because my KOTOR disk broke inside my Xbox. I guess I played it too much...

Thanks for all you've done so far. If you need rest, I can wait. I don't need to play right now.

I would suggest using google to find fan made patches and see if you can get any results.
There's an official one and a couple of fan-made ones, but that's all I can remember.
