Firstly, if this is in the wrong place, then I am sorry and if a mod could move it to the right place, that would be very useful.

OT: I'm getting really annoyed with my connection. Generally, it is good. I have a 2MB download speed, everything runs fine. I have 5 bars 90% of the time and everything is great UNTIL I try to play online.

I'll reiterate that my connection is fine, until I try and play games online. I can't connect to my friends, my connection lags to shit if I am not host and even when I am and very rarely can I enjoy a smooth game with no problems. My Xbox connection is fine, but my PC connection is really messing my about. I enjoy playing DoW2 online and CS:S and all the rest, but it just keeps playing up.

Does anyone know how to help? It's not my graphics card or anything like that, but I do generally use wireless but even wired is exactly the same.

Please help :(

Is this a recent thing?
If it's only been in the past few days or so, it may be an issue with your service provider.
Verizon had some serious issues a while back in my area that made using the internet nigh impossible for a while.

I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't touched my xbox in ages, but DoW2 has been running fine online, then going really sketchy, then okay for a game, the off again. Downloads are always fast, so i'm not sure what it is :(

I don't understand it. I've been told when hosting on DoW2 that people can play the game just fine and my connection isn't lagging, yet on my screen it is unbareably all over the place. I'd call up my provider if I thought they could do anything... HIGHLY doubt that.

have you tried altering your settings on the game like the video settings cs that usually causes issues in online games but when i play cod4 i get tons of lag and have to disable my firewall

If it's connection lag (rather than GPU issue) it may be your Network card on your PC, or your router. Online games run traffic differently than a regular web conncetion. Try a different router, and if that doesn't work try updating the drivers on your network card (do that anyway) or maybe even spring for a seperate PCI network card rather than the one built into your motherboard.

I had awful problems downloading things from high bandwidth services like Steam, or BBC iPlayer and my PC would sometimes even BSOD. It was caused by a driver conflict, and updating didn't work. I spent £5 on a Gigabit PCI Network card, and am fine.

I had a problem once where i was going mad trying everything same as you, It turned out the actual lines in the house where fault and as soon as I plugged the wire into the main line it was fine...

It could be the wireless, I never had much luck with that and stopped using it for wow.

Hope this helps alongside others suggestions.

Check your drivers for your wireless card and the firmware for your router is up to date. Always the seconds step (after turning it off and on).
