Help With Macbook Connection

So I just got a new MacbookPro recently to replace my old one but I'm having a bit of trouble right now.

For some reason, it won't connect to the internet and I can't find any reason as to why. It's picking up a signal and the icon for my wifi at home is showing up but it won't connect. It keeps saying it can't find the IP address despite me manually entering it.

I've tried everything and I've never had a problem like this before, even with my desktop Mac.
The password to my internet seems to be correct and all but it won't connect properly, even though it clearly says there is indeed a connection here.

Note also that it isn't the Mac, I don't think seeing as it connects everywhere else I go, just not at home. And I've had trouble like this before but it was easily solved as the router was reset and came up as a different name, but now, there aren't any other networks besides my normal one.

Can anyone help out with this or am I just being an idiot and not noticing something that is completely obvious? >.>

Check your router to see if its allowing the SSID to be broadcasted? Thats all I can think of atm.

How old is your router? I don't know anything about fixing Mac software (whatever you think about Macs, the two in my house do seem to "just work" out of the box) but I had worlds of problems when I upgraded to Windows 7 and hadn't updated the firmware on what is quite an old router. Symptoms were identical to yours, albeit on a Windows PC - could see the network, appeared to be configured, couldn't connect.

I'm assuming you can access your router to update to firmware from another PC, but if not you should be able to grab an Ethernet cable and plug it in to your Mac to get it done.

Checked that and it seems to be alright as it's working with my desktop :/

The router itself is around... 3 years old or so but hasn't really had any trouble like this before except for when I had to restart it and change the password and all. That was annoying, but it was fixed up pretty quickly by simply reentering the password again.
Doesn't seem to be working now.
I tried doing a firmware update today but it didn't seem to do anything other than bring up a bunch of confusing messages I didn't want >.>

Reset the DHCP server. Depending on the brand of router (look your up) your need to enter 192.168.x.x The x terms will be dependent on the manufacturer. You will need a password which is probably the default one (look it up). There will be a button in the status tab that says "DHCP Release" Hit is, then Hit the corresponding "Renew" button.
