I have recently found my old copy of the game, and was overjoyed that it was still in playable condition!
However, even though it installed fine, when I try to play it, and I activate anything(a switch, lever, etc.) the game closes itself...
I'm not sure why it keeps doing this, and I cant find anything that will make it work, although I might have simply not looked hard enough, and could use your help...
Side Note: I'm running Vista, if that matters
EDIT: I've already tried running it in 95 compatability, 256 colors, Admin, and in 640x480

Good ol' Myst, eh?

Considering the way it was made to run (using older video capture/replay software such as Quicktime), I'd venture a guess that Vista either doesn't come installed with what the game needs, or that Vista is just being the buggy GUI it always has been.

(I think Vista needs the blue pages)

You need to uninstall quicktime and install the version on the disk. Newer versions don't have support for hypercard stacks, which is how Myst is run.

You need DOSbox probably. You can get it to run in vista/7 but it's iffy at best. I know you cant -install- it at all on 64-bit.

The quicktime thing mentioned above works sometimes. But DOXbox will work I'm sure.

DOSbox, as already said, is probably your best bet.
Alternatively, if you haven't played it and are looking at giving it a playthrough anyway, RealMyst is 5.99 on steam. I'm sure that would run, and it breathes some new(ish) life into the old game.

You can get Riven working actually, it runs fine past install. You just have to install it on a machine that allows it, copy it over to your computer and run it in compatibility mode I believe. It freezes sometimes but works fine otherwise.

...Yes...I had the same problem. Yaaaay research!
