Well i finally sucked it up and borrowed new vegas the other day off my mate to see what all the bollocks going around is about, problem is now im lvl 8 in novum i think and i have since then played another game, and every night im wondering what to play, seeing NV and i frankly cba to put it back in my xbox, i dont see anything interesting happening any time soon, and the whole map feels so small and linear.

If someone can give me some good things to look forward to(i dont give a damn about spoilers if it will keep me interested in the game) becuase i do want to finish it, i just dont want to hate every step of it, as i am at the moment.

EDITED: typo's i didnt notice, im still waking up

The first portion of the game is rather linear. Until you get to New Vegas area you are on a bit of a track from Goodsprings. Once you get to Vegas a lot of quests become available and the game no longer forces you in one direction.

The game doesn't force you to go in that direction, it just encourages it.

You can go where you want, you just need to be careful.

Yea, should you waiver from the encouraged path, say hello to Cazadors, Death Claws and Nightstalkers at level 4!

OT: OP, don't feel obligated to like New Vegas, there are a ton of problems with the game. However, if you're really that interested, you might want to check out Fallout 3 first, it's a lot easier to get into.

I have finished fallout 3 several times and have 1420 GS for it on xbox lol i absolutly loved it, i just cant seem to get into new vegas, which is a shame to be fair as i was a huge fan of 3, and ye i went a bit north once and saw some deathclaws at level 2, i managed to kill 1 young deathclaw and use most of my food/healing/bullets, then i saw 4 more and legged it

If you want a challenge, go back to Goodsprings. Now, there's a main road just to the east of Goodsprings. Follow it north till you get to a small mining settlement called Sloan. Now head a little further north till you get to the quarry (named Quarry Junction).

That place is fun to the max :D

I had the exact same problem with New Vegas when I first started playing it... Now I cant stop o_O. Seriously even if it's just wandering the mojave (wishing for a nuclear winter) listening to custom music it's peaceful and more to the point... fun :D

It does get better; once you're in the area around New Vegas, there are a lot of quests to do and there is plenty to explore. Unfortunately it does take some patience before it gets better, but in my opinion, its well worth it.

Ah Quarry Junction, the fourth most diabolical place in the wasteland... it can actually be fun... once you have a high guns skill and strength and an Anti-Materiel Rifle; at least its open and there is plenty or room to manoeuvre, with long sight lines (unlike Dead Wind Cavern; just don't go there till you're like level 30 and have awesome armour and weapons).

the expansion packs are pretty darn great. If your a low level the first one would be honest hearts. which is the happy trails(i think) quest. then wander around the world for a bit, fight the legion(or help them)

You can also in the main storyline, take control of a robot army and get to decide who lives and who dies in the mojave.

edit: oh and if you cant be bothered taking the long way, just grab a couple of stealth boys and sneak past the deathclaws in that mountainous area between the supermutants and most of the death claws. even a non stealth character can pull it off with stealth boys. Probably fail a few times but thats what loading is for.

double edit: to get to new vegas i mean.

Honestly, I kind of prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3.

Now, I'll agree that the first bit till you get to new Vegas is a bit linear, but as others have said you don't have to follow the route the game gives you, and you can wander (O hai Cazadors!) though again, at lower levels its bit of a gamble.

But what really sells new Vegas for me is that the story is genuinely more interesting. The faction system is actually kind of fun, and balancing peoples' needs against one another is interesting, and making deals to help save or conquer the Mojave Wasteland between various factions helps to make the endgame a pretty damn awesome climax if you pull it off. There's a bounty of interesting characters, whether old callbacks like Marcus (I'll admit I only understood who he was through the Vault wiki, but Michael Dorn is awesome as his voice actor), the companions such as Arcade or Cassidy, or some of the stranger factions in the wasteland (Boomers and statistics FTW).

The story also feels like it has a bigger impact. Fallout 3's ending quest is important in the Fallout story line, but compared to the New Vegas ending quest, it doesn't feel like a full blown war to save humanity, but instead a protracted firefight between two sides of self righteous people in power armor. The choice between the NCR, Legion, Mr. House or going your own way offers up a lot more options, and at the end, you've actually changed the world for a vast array of characters. You feel like your choices have well truly changed history.

That's not say I don't love Fallout 3; its a great game in its own right. But New Vegas has, all in all, a better tied together story with far more interesting characters.

This is my two caps. Feel free to disagree.

I love this game. im thinking about trying for an ending where i kill everyone on the list of tribes that yes man sends me after myself by shooting them all. Make me a massive prick. And yes that means a shootout in every casino.

It is fun. I love the fact that the world is actually threatening to the player (at least early on). I actually took the straight path from Goodspring to New Vegas on my first playthrough. I had to use two stealth boys and be really careful. Along the way, I attracted the attention of one Giant Radscorpion (which I was able to get away from), two Cazadores (which I killed by using an ungodly amount of explosives, ammo, and stimpacks), and Cook-Cook (the batshit insane Fiend with the flamethrower). When I finally made my crippled and nearly ammo-less way to Freeside, I felt in danger of everything. I actually used one of the bodyguards to make my way through the area.
