You shouldn't act patronizing just because I am more of a casual player than you are.
And yet I do. As is my right. :D
Are you seriously that elitist though, or you're just winding me up now? If the former, you're a prick. If the latter, congratulations on your success. =P

Congrats on 2000 posts btw...

You have to either go back to the village or go to the forest, I don't remember. But seriously dude :\ this game is pretty easy and tells you where to go very bluntly. I'm pretty sure there's a little story recap "what to do next" journal thing in the pause menu too. If all else fails talk to NPCs since they do the whole "Talk about whatever trouble is going on" thing most games do. I'll be honest, you're basically complaining Mario is too hard before even reaching world 1-8 at the point you're at.
I usually can't tell what to do next by reading the journal since before when I was stuck, it didn't tell me what I needed to do. When I found out online that I needed to restore the cherry blossoms, I basically had no idea I needed to do that, I must have missed a conversation with someone or forgot what they said. Map markers would have been nice and I was basically just stuck wandering around feeling lost and confused which isn't something I enjoy in games.

I tend to have similar problems with a lot of PS2 generation games actually (and previous generations even more so), games have definitely gotten a lot more easy to finish in the current generation. Although I have been gaming most of my life I will be the first to admit I have never been very good at games barring First person shooters, so the current trend of making games easier and more intuitive is personally something that really appeals to me.

Anyways I am not complaining, and I have never said this is a bad game, I really want to love this game and I've spent 7 hours trying my hardest to. It's definately a superb game by objective standards but perhaps not appealing to me personally.

There are map markers though? There's usually a BIG green arrow somewhere to indicate where to go. Also Issun pretty much tells you "Use this on these trees" when you first get that tree reviving power in the cave, and if you paid any attention you probably would have noticed that EVERY area in the game was filled with cherry blossom trees with no blossoms and blossoms are important in the game. Especially the starting village. Logic would dictate that you'd have to do something in the village, no? And I must honestly ask, are you paying attention to the dialogue?
Tried my hardest to pay attention and think I have for the most part but I am mostly irritated by the lack of voices so I find it kinda difficult for the game to keep my attention in terms of storyline. I really am trying but I am "put off" by all these little things.

It's not really that though, I think its more of the design choice of exploration over clear goals. As you can see by reading the other replies in this thread most people had similar problems to me in terms of losing track & getting lost and unsure (though in their case obviously it didn't bother them much :)) Nothing wrong with this decision in game design, I am just more of a fan of linearity and clear objectives. Also no, there's no green marker on my screen most of the time... and no map markers showing where I need to go. Not since the first few hours anyway... The Journal is very cryptic as well.

I am really not bashing the game here, only giving my subjective opinion. Though the original purpose of this thread was to help me, I have since past that part and still find the game unappealing. I can appreciate its beauty, art style and unique qualities though... Really wish it could grab me and draw me in like I want it to... Even disregarding the issues I have faced while playing I guess I am more of an 'instant gratification' gamer.

well at least you're trying, it's not like you just picked up the game and threw it down again because there weren't guns in it,

just wondering, where are you up to, it doesn't really reach its true quality until you kill orochi, which isn't the end *SPOILERS* it is a lot harder to get lost if you read the dialogue and DON'T SKIP CUTSCENES! you often need them to know what to do and they're the most epic parts of the game.

P.S the journal may seem cryptic because it's quotes from dialogue not plain objectives

this might have been confusing for you but if you finish talking to someone and there's a little green arrow above their head then talk to them again and they'll say something new

sorry to break it to you but the game is about 50 hours long for the average playthrough, still, you should probabely avoid all side quests to stay engaged so it might be about 30 hours.
