I'm having a bit of trouble. I found a Pokemon hack called Toxic Purple online and I downloaded it with Fire Red in order for it to work. I have them all in the same file, but whenever I try to play the ROM it doesn't work. Can someone help me?

Might wanna go to a hacking dedicated forum... Also some gamers (Kinda like me) don't look at hacking in the positive of ways. >_>

sv_cheats 1 All the way :D (I know that's not on rom it's a joke)

I'm not sure if we're allowed to talk about this... I sense a lock incoming.

As far as rom hacking goes, all I've ever known is hacking using a Hex Editor (a surprisingly painful process from what I'm told). I remember back in the Halo modding days, you could make "patches" for maps with a program called PPF-O-Matic *I think*. Basically what it did was look at two files (a modded and unmodded map), made a small file containing the differences, and then you'd upload that and people would apply your PPF to their map to play your mod.

Could be wrong though. The only hacked .rom's I've seen online were stand alone so who knows. Not, of course, that I've ever downloaded such things.

ROM =/= RAM.

I have the game, so it's ok.
No. Playing on an emulator if you have the game is okay. Hacking, that is changing the content without the permission of the creators, modifying or removing things from the game (even a rom) is illegal.

Pretty sure it's against the rules to ask/tell someone about this kind of stuff.
Technically, rom hacking itself isn't illegal assuming the rom is a copy of your own game.

The hack should have come as a patch. The readme of that patch should say which program to use to patch the game, and provide a download link.(if there is no download link, try this [http://www.google.com/])

That's too bad that it's illegal. There are a lot of people with great ideas for more Pokemon games.

There are other games where the player is able to customize things in the game. In Neverwinter Nights 2 you get your own toolset to create your own adventures. In Super Smash Brothers Brawl you can create your own levels and share them with others. I wish Nintendo would allow the same for Pokemon. A Pokemon toolset would be great, making it legal and easier to create your own adventures. Really is too bad. =-/

I'd be willing to wager this thread is fine. I mean, we have MW2 mod information on the site's news feed and threads all over the place about third party, non supported mods for dedicated servers that don't get locked.

I've played some cool ROM hacks in my time. It can be fun to re experience something for the first time.

Or however that saying goes.

In all technicalities, if you own a particular product and you want to hack it, that's entirely up to you.
