Hello escapist!
Bad news, as of last night, whenever I try to play a game, my usually very good ping has been ridiculously high and the experience has been so laggy it's unplayable.
What I think is causing it is Windows defender.
Periodically windows defender pops up and says "Windows defender has finished the update, press okay to finish the updating process" After I have clicked it, ti requires authorisation which I give it and then it goes away for a bit. However, it returns later and I have to do it again.
On top of this, gaming has become incredibly laggy as stated above, it began lagging last night while I was playing the Starcraft 2 beta. Today, when I tried playing Team fortress 2 it it was also incredibly laggy.
It is not a hardware issue as I've ran Fallout 3 perfectly with no hiccups and with the high pings in TF2 and the drop player prompt in SC2, the issue is obviously something causing an internet slowdown.
I've looked for a solution to the windows defender update issue on the internet but following even some of these suggestions it was not successful.
Because my particular predicament effects me as a gamer, I thought to ask the escapist because they -as gamers- likely have experienced similar issues and some of the more tech savvy would be able to help.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
