So, how do you feel about the Escapist? Personally i do not like this woman whatsoever. Her writing is boring as hell.

She wrote the dorfs in DA:O, and they were basically the best part of that game. She (like the rest of the DA writing team) is getting unfairly slammed essentially for not having time to finish the writing and editing process for DA2. That said, you can't work for EA and be thin-skinned like the DA team has shown themselves to be.

She's bad at her job. She should probably be replaced. But that does not warrant the pile of shit she's had to deal with. And that other prick who called her "the cancer that is killing Bileware" is an asshole.

First time I heard about her, as usually when it comes to game developer employees, I'm one of the rare ones who doesn't actually need to know all the specific persons behind beloved video games. I don't agree with the skip combat -option at all though, because a game without a proper gameplay is no game at all. I don't want to watch a movie instead when I'm playing a game.

What interested me most in that article was that when you've got kiddos screaming "fat *****" and "obese ****", but you can't respond at all apparently, without being some kind of demon. Just got to smile and take it...

I can't give an opinion about this woman, for similar reasons to why I don't know who exactly came up with giving Gordon a crowbar. But I continue to know that Internet, anonymity and pathetic people don't make a good formula.

I don't like to do complain about these matters, but seriously: OP couldn't bother to provide a decent summary, any context or even proper own opinions, just a link to another site and "thoughts?" ?

I'm not a Bioware fan so I've never experienced any of her work but I have to say that the fact she doesn't like to play games does make her look a bit of an inappropriate choice to write the stories for them. How can she really know whether her stories are enjoyable to people who do like games if she doesn't like playing them herself? And assuming that because of this dislike she doesn't play games much or often, how does she know what works and what doesn't in game stories in general? But I won't hate her for that, because like I said I've never experienced her work.

But I have no problem with her statements about the ability to skip combat sections. I guess it's not appropriate in most current games since combat makes up the basic foundations of what the game is, but not all the time. And there are some people who do play games just for story, so why can't we skip combat if we can skip cut scenes? Perhaps it will be an option that should be implemented in to future games which don't have combat as a primary focus.

The way that people reacted to her was totally ridiculous though. Although I think the confrontational way she reacted was unprofessional, she is still in the right. From what that story says, what some people have said to/about her are just repulsive and inexcusable. I would probably be extremely inclined to react the way she did if I were in the same situation. I don't think that's what she should have done, but she can't be blamed for it.

Wait, wasn't this a personal twitter account, and the account of the guy (Aaryn Flynn) who lept to her defence would be personal too (as in, the twitter accounts were not affiliated with the Bioware company in any way.) So professional conduct doesn't come into the equation at all, and therefore the guy bawwing about hurt feeling can go up his own ass, because it's got absolutely nothing to do with Bioware, it's just two people flinging their poo at each other over the internet.

"Games almost always include a way to "button through" dialogue without paying attention, because they understand that some players don't enjoy listening to dialogue and they don't want to stop their fun. Yet they persist in practically coming into your living room and forcing you to play through the combats even if you're a player who only enjoys the dialogue."
She said that? And She works at Bioware? I friggin' hope they listen to her. That would be awesome, especially for Bioware games. I get where she's getting at - she doesn't actually play games, so from her point of view, combat might be boring, and it's possibly the reason she doesn't play. However even people who do play can benefit from this. I think most people have come to the point when the combat only wastes time - the most recent example from Bioware was when I played ME - my characters were perfectly capable of tearing everything to shreds and I just wanted to get to the next part of the plot (or subplot or something) but the game kept throwing bothersome fights at me, so it took me two or three times as much time than I actually needed.
