Sorry to interrupt the forums with a non-gaming related issue. Let's get right to it: I need your help. I'm a first year English student at the University of Amsterdam and I'm currently working on a research project into Phonemic Awareness. What does that mean? It's essentially studying the number of sounds that a word consists of. As a part of my research I have to survey a group of people to test their phonemic abilities.
Who do I need for this survey?
I'd love for you to fill in my survey if you are:
- Male or female
- Between the ages of 18 and 25
- Are a native Dutch speaker with a reasonable understanding of English
- Have not completed/currently taking any kind of Linguistics course
How will the survey work?
You will be presented with a word and then asked to identify the number of sounds it consists of. You can spot the sounds by pronouncing the word and then counting the number of sounds you hear.
For example:
Question 1
Foot
How many sounds does this word consist of?
You can clearly hear the sounds 'F-OE-T' when you pronounce it. So, this word has three sounds.
