I thought that some people would be interested on the status of lightning for the Minecraft 1.5 update, here is what it looks like so far.

EDIT: Not a mod, it is just utilizing files already in minecraft.

If you are calling BS because of that other video, keep in mind that Notch has been working on Minecraft since the 1.4 update, so the files must be different now.

Yiffcraft is a modded client. That has nothing to do with the weather, just flying, teleporting, etc.

The rain/snow seems alright, but i really doubt that the lightning is going to look like that...

Most likely won't, but that's what it looks like now.

The snow and rain capabilities are already in the game (though not active. The textures have been available since before the halloween update.)
The lightning is not.

Well.. Given that the teammojang youtube video that has already been referenced does illustrate this sort of lightning as visible (0:41-0:42 in the upper left corner) it does at least seem like this is legit. Perhaps the OPs example lends its self to incredibility because of how much lightning is present in the still, but it at least seems to be legit.

It hasn't been fully developed yet. You can see a snippet of what it'll look like and do in the beta 1.5 video. Rain doesn't look like that either, it's all shown in the video. You should go watch it, it's around 40-60 seconds in.

I still find it highly suspicious that the lighting doesnt look anything like the lighting from the official Team Mojang video i linked to...

Well Notch has been working on 1.5 since 1.4 has been released, so there should be some differences.
