Apparently she's already had them change the controls to the console version of a game, Sarkeesian has made it self-evident that she understands incredibly little about game design.

I don't think it's right to have someone who knows very little about game design make that kind of decision, the mildest number tweak can lead to a massive imbalance, shitty controls will always hamper someones ability to enjoy something.

This is a dumb move, if it's true & being a fan of Mirrors Edge, I genuinely hope it's not.

As much as I respect ReviewTechUSA, I can't consider him a good source of information. His rage against censorship and feminist influence in gaming has been getting the best of him lately, making him ignore facts and skipping proper research before giving his opinion.

Funnily enough, if you watch his video from just a few days ago where he talks about Target Australia pulling GTAV off their shelves, he says within the first minute of the video that he doesn't want people to make fun of him for not fact-checking his stories.

And yet, here at the top of this thread, we have a video of his where he obviously didn't fact-check any of it.

How can she help deveope a game? She has 0 clue about game design, nor does she have any consistency as far as what a good female character is. At best I see that they will just keep saying "yes, yes..." while she talks and then ignore everything she said and make a great squeal for a great game.

She can help sell the game to her fans just by being there.

Well like I said I stopped listening to his BS and unsubbed cause one he is an ass and two you can still be anti_Sarkeesian and still not be an ass. In my opinion anyone using Feminazis unironically is an ass.

I swear this particular rumor is like the gaming communities ghost story. It crops up- people get angry (as usual) disappears, and comes back up again.

At the end of the day, why the fuck does it matter? She's a consultant. They do this for a variety of games. GTAV had actual gang members and the like on set. Those people have nothing to do with anything related to videogame development. They wanted them there for the experiences they had to share.

Same with Anita.

Before we get to everyone brandishing their torches and pitchforks, I'd just like to point out that the last instance of a high-profile developer listening to Sarkeesian's criticism/views was Saints Row IV [https://www.google.com/search?q=saints+row+iv+anita+sarkeesian&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a&channel=np&source=hp], and anybody who has played that game knows how it turned out.

Also, more reputable sources than a Youtube video based on blog post rumors would be nice. The only information even tangentially related to anything like this has solely been fear-mongering, and it goes back two years now to a blog post originally made on Destructoid (which had no sourced facts or anything to begin with).

I have not played Saints Row IV. How did it turn out? I kept hearing it was good. So please enlighten me. I am serious. I am not screwing around. And I DO NOT remember a backlash against it.

That's exactly my point, actually. It was good (if maybe not what fans of Saints Row 2 were looking for), and there wasn't any sort of overblown backlash, from feminists or SJWs or anyone else. At least, not one that was large enough for me to have heard of it.

At first i sympathised with GG more but really this has all become a clusterfuck. its 2 echo chambers against one another and both are setting their respective sides back years. The best i can equate this whole situation to is Occupy. Occupy had a good enough message but then the Crazies got involved.

And yea, Kop is Stormfront levels of /pol/ack when he gets his frothing rage on. All of the twitter E-celebs are endless amounts of cringe comedy though so atleast something good is coming out of all this.

Edit: TB's stuff is mostly in his Twitlongers from about a month and a half ago i think he started getting involved, telling both sides to cut the shit and iirc he got harangued by Anti for not outright demonising gg. I dont have them on hand since i dont rabidly bookmark everything.

Hell, she isn't even going to design anything, she's just going to comment on stuff they show her and if they agree, they will change stuff based on her feedback. It's harmless and no one is being unwillingly forced into anything. But if it pisses gamers off, then it's probably the best thing to do, just for the hell of it. I hope more developers does something similar, just to piss overly angry people off.

Let's face it. This is happening because EA wants to appear more 'politically correct'. Barring that, the ONLY people who should be allowed to work on something like are the artists and designers themselves...way to hand over creative control of your games to the Politically correct police.

From a distance, I don't know if this was a good idea on EA's part or not. It will probably get them some hate mail, maybe even threats. It will also probably cause some people to pick the game up who otherwise would not have done so. I really don't have a strong sense how the balance will shift, or if the hypothetical harassment, trolling etc. that is likely to ensue will be worth what is likely to be positive media attention.

Similarly, it's hard for me to say what Sarkeesian herself might bring to such a production, though I'm inclined to think that if it means bypassing or subverting certain common tropes, it might be positive for the overall story and/or script.

Closer to home? I don't love Sarkeesian, and I have mixed feelings about how something like this might increase her perceived standing. To be clear, I also don't hate Sarkeesian; some of what she has to say is quite true, and much is certainly worthy of discussion. I just sometimes wish there was someone else under the mantle of "The Voice of Feminism in Gaming"; someone with a little more care for research, a slightly more open mind, a little less eagerness to stick to a particular narrative.

I never played the original Mirror's Edge, and I'm not hugely likely to play the second; the reviews I read of the original were decidedly mixed. But again, Sarkeesian's presence might help shore up the storyline, which was apparently more than a little lacking in the original, so that would be a good thing. I'm certainly not going to advise anyone else not to play it, but... (Looks at list of unplayed games on GOG and Steam)... Yeah.

The hypocrite label isnt wrong either. It's clear now more than ever that jim plays whatever fiddle he feels is going to get him more views. It doesnt change the fact that everyone involved on both sides of this shit fight are idiots who will in the end accomplish nothing. They will pat themselves on the back for percieved victories but in the end their input into it all will probably be minimal.

This thing here, the whole petition and the general reaction to this has shown me one thing. Or well, reminded me of something:

Discussion on the internet is pointless. Mostly because people don't read what they are presented. The OP himself edited the opening post including a statement from Anita that she doesn't work on the game. We still have people rambling about the "SJW" or "PC" boogeyman.

The comments section on the video (the first video in the OP) still has people raging on about the subject, even though the entire story is false and fabricated.

You may as well be watching a group of tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists freaking out over chemtrails, for all the relevance and usefulness this has.
